I've always been an imp player just because I enjoy the aesthetics, story and voice acting much more, however I just made a republic character and noticed that even at peak hours the republic fleet has so few people it's almost empty? I'm on Satele Shan and imperial fleet is stuffed up literally all day at any hour.. Is this a thing or is it just me? I really wanted to get into the stories I haven't played but if I can only play the story and have no potential to do fps and pvp later on then I kinda don't see the point. I couldn't get a flashpoint group finder pop for over 20 minutes.

could just be an off time for your server, but I wouldnt let it bother you. The class stories are definitely worth doing even if that's all you do with the characters. I've played through all 8, and I liked the republic stories just as much as the imperial stories (mostly).

Trooper was probably the most boring for me, but kept me entertained mostly because I like the aesthetic and military playstyle. Smuggler was by far the best on the republic side, and I've played through it twice now (male lightside gunslinger and female darkside scoundrel). Both runs were awesome.

Jedi knight was an ok story but, In my opinion, was far too 'cookie-cutter'. It basically felt like every other good-guy-saves-galaxy storyline you could think of. Still, it has some cool moments that keep you hooked, just nothing all that unpredictable to throw you for a loop.

Jedi consular is considered by most players to be one of the worst, if not the worst, stories in the game. However, I rather enjoyed it. The consular story has a lot more to do with politics, diplomacy, and the mysteries of the force than it does action or intrigue. It's a far more intellectual class story arc.

Just my two creds.

I guess thats all a matter of taste, but i did all imperial class stories first and after that, when i runned through republic ones they were, well, quite boring? Tbh after starting and capital planets i was spacebaring through two of rep stories at least.

Imp Side was always more active from what I've read on the forums and what little time I played in the Pub Side. But the stories are worth getting into if nothing else for the legendary achievement.

Jedi Knight:Pretty good story but it's kind of meh, it's the classical hero's tale of taking down the evil bad guy, not the worst story but as Tenacity said too cookie-cutter.

Jedi Consular: A lot of people just borderline hate this class story, I however enjoyed it far more than the JK. The story isn't as big on action scenes and it's a light contrast to the SI's story IMO, it deals more with the mystical aspects of the force as well more of the politics of the Republic in general. Overall I'd say if you're interested in a story that explore some of the politics involving the Republic and the mysteries of the force involving the Jedi and the Sith go for this one.

Smuggler:Easily the funniest and best class story of the republic side. Depending on how you play it you can either become a respectable scoundrel working for the republic or have your own criminal empire, I won't spoil more and my apologies for spoiling this much but for the sake of my argument I had to, really it's full of proper comedic timing and even though I never had a thing for being a smuggler or a ship captain in Star Wars this story made me feel greatly immersed in it.

Trooper:Trooper is perhaps the 2nd weakest IMO, not that it's bad but the Trooper is just the average soldier trying to do what they can for the war effort. Trooper does get into some of the dirty politics behind the Republic and how sometimes they'll do questionable acts for the sake of their war effort, overall I'd say play this class if you're interested in a more grounded experience without any sort of crazy mystical shenanigans going afoot, just seeing the Star Wars galaxy through the eyes of a soldier instead of a space-wizard with a glowing stick.

I agree with you on everything except imo the trooper was the weakest story. I have a problem with following orders for the sake of politics, so I found myself ignoring orders through the majority of the story. It's the only way I could finally finish it. The only plus was this was the only character who could use the cannon weapon.

Meh, I quite enjoyed it, I wasn't always following Garza's orders as sometimes they're DS and I was playing LS. The only moment I completely stepped out of the line was when Saresh wanted to exchange General Rakton and I was like "Noooooo", which was a DS choice. I'm honestly quite fond of the story since it's nice to see the war through the eyes of a soldier, reminds me of the campaign for BF2 back in the day with the 501st Journal being narrated by one of the clones. Again it doesn't rank that high because for me playing a space wizard with a glowing stick is way more fun but in no way do I think it's trash.

I find it kind of ironic because in all the movies the republic and jedi's are the cool ones Luke, Yoda, Obi-wan, Han Solo even in the new movies but in the game everyone wants to be the Dark side Sith who can kill anyone he wants just because.

now with that said I have played most Imp toons (Main Marauder) and recently decided to level up some light side and i am finding it really hard to stay true to the light side some of the choices just don't make sense or I'm like can i just kill this guy he deserves it I am finding i have to readjust my thinking on the light side right now i'm lvling a scoundrel, sentinel and I am enjoying the scoundrel way more simply because I can choose dark side options if I choose to because i am not bound by the Jedi code, while he would never outright harms the republic he does love getting paid. and finally i have noticed the republic has way less people than the Imp side I'm on Star Forge and my guild has a consistent 15-20 people on at any given time.

Usually there is more traffic on Imp side.

One reason might be the aestetics (Guild ships, Fleet, personal ships, etc.) - I like that much more as well, yet I hate Imp side becasue it's full of immature kiddies, and that's the second reason, Imp side has more population, lots of those wannabe bad boys with pale skin and no muscles at all living in moms cellar and want to be a bad boy, at least in a game. :-) I know it's somewhat a generalization but I dare you to claim it's not true VERY often. :-)

Also, the fleet talk on Imp side is usualy in a unique way degenerated because of those same people. You don't even remotely see that on Rep side that often.

I dunno, my experience has been the opposite - I've found generally more mature players on the imperial side, and less so on the republic side, for my servers (namadii corridor, harbinger, satele shan).

There's idiots and degenerates on both factions though.

So far I feel like imperial side is

A.) Much more populated

B.) Much better stories, every single one is good in it's own way and each class has at least a few very good companions.

C.) Friendlier players imo?

D.) Actual Q pops for PvE and PvP

E.) Better combat animations for literally every class, I enjoy smuggler shotgun animations but other than that... JK has really clunky/weak feeling abilities, Consoler rocks have nothing on lightning, etc etc

Honestly a huge thing is also just that the voice acting is so much worse on pub. Literally every single VA on imp is phenomenal but then there's the jedi consoler who sounds like a middle aged dad... And the originality of the stories is low as others have said, trooper is just... a soldier. JK is just your basic hero, JC is just bad in every way I don't even want to play it, and smuggler is the only pub story iv played part of and actually enjoyed.

I agree with this. The Imperial stories are far more nuanced and enjoyable IMHO and the players are nicer.

95% of the time when I've been ninjaed on Yavin 4 or one of the other daily areas it's been by someone playing a Republic-side character, usually a Jedi who makes a point of using one of the Jedi titles.

As someone said there are people that are rude and will ninajed things on both sides it just depends. I have found more respect and courtesy on the Republic side than I have on the imperial side but I know to say one side is better than the other regarding people playing is not fair to either side. People are going to be who they are whether they are imperial or republic.

For me I play more Republic as it somehow fits me better, could be when I played SWG I always played the rebellion over the imperial side. Though I do have some dark side characters but it is kind of funny that even my sith characters gear comes from my republic side.
