[Darth Malgus][Event Invitation] Wacky Races

Please Note: We completed this event on 13th May 2018. Our next server event is on Friday 18th, the world famous House Party aka 50 in your stronghold achievement farm. I'll post more about that nearer the time ;)

Time for our next experimental server event and you are all invited! Time for our next experimental server event and you are all invited! We are on the **Darth Malgus** server. This event is called Wacky Races and if you ever watched

then you'll have an idea of what to expect :)

 

We have selected five race courses from across the galaxy and all you have to do is get from the starting point, through all the check points and reach the finish. Easy...if you can survive!

 

We are looking for two sets of people. One lot who want to run the race and claim the bigger prizes and another group who we've dubbed "the killers" whose job it is to stop the racers from reaching the finish line. As with the cartoon, there is nothing stopping the racers from eliminating their competition!

 

Prizes For Each Stage

  • First 5 racers each win 5 million credits and a chance cube
  • If the killers prevent all the racers from completing the course then the top 5 /rollers in the killers ops chat each win a chance cube
  • If we have more than 1 killers ops group then it is the top 5 rolls across all groups plus an extra chance cube for highest roll in each group
  • You can win more than once so for instance if you are in the first 5 of every race you end up with 25 million credits
  • Kills counts towards the I Am Death Incarnate and planet based PvP kill achievements

 

How To Join

This event is open to people on both factions. You do not have to be a guild member. We will advertise racer and killer group invites on both fleets at the event start time and once the groups are complete we will summon you to each location.

 

When?

Sunday 13th at 13:00 BST / 12:00 UTC. Event duration is expected to be around 2 hours.

 

Rules

  • Prizes will be given to the first 5 racers to survive to the end of the course and /clap at their ops group leader in general chat (we use the chat log timestamp for decision making)
  • You must be in either our racers or killers ops groups to win prizes
  • If a racer dies then they lose that course
  • A dead racer can revive to seek revenge...
  • Racers can have their friends come and defend them
  • No quick traveling or taking taxis for racers before they are dead but the killers can
  • No summons for racers after we've brought you to the starting point
  • Killers can summon each other as much as they want
  • Racers can be on foot or on their mounts
  • Racers must pass all the checkpoints! (We will be watching)
  • Killers must contribute to the hunt or they will be kicked to make room for others
  • Players from both factions welcome, we'll have ops groups on both sides
  • All abilities including gap closers are allowed
  • Stealth allowed
  • Guild ship orbital support is allowed
  • Stims, adrenals and medpacs allowed
  • Companions allowed
  • Heroic abilities/defenses allowed
  • All mounts allowed
  • All levels welcome
  • We recommend you purchase speeder unlock level 5 from the legacy character perks panel

 

Voice Comms

We will have dedicated channels on our teamspeak server for both the racers and the killers. Spectators are welcome. We'll give out connection details on the day.

 

Video Streams

If you are going to stream the event then please post a link to your channel below so spectators can see the action.

I'm posting this one in the General forum as I know there are plenty of people with characters on the Darth Malgus server who play more on the others and might miss our fleet adverts.

Just out of interest:

 

Alderaan - where are the checkpoints specifically located on the two bridges that need crossing? if they are at either end of the bridge, one could cross one, drop down to the water, mount the side and enter the check point from the right side to avoid the choke points entirely and the killers on the bridge would be none the wiser.

 

To clarify; would you need to cross the bridge to keep with the course or will the check point be in the middle of the bridge to avoid any confusion?

 

Belsavis - What is keep all the killers from being on the one highly exposed lava bridge at the third chokepoint. just for fairness, would they be forced to occupy other areas besides just the bridge after the republic outpost?

 

Ilum - Too many outposts to go through, nevermind the killers. Runners could be unfairly killed by outpost/base guards. There is nothing in your rules about outside interference and there should be.

The Wacky Racers have crossed the finish line! We had one group of killers on Rep side and one group of racers on Imp side. It was great fun to watch the race but even cooler to hear all the teamwork from both sides in teamspeak. 95 million in credits and 27 chance cube were awarded. We learned a few lessons so next time should be even better. See you all there 👍

Alderaan Race Course

 

There are no checkpoints on the bridge. The checkpoints are clearly marked with large numbers. The #2 checkpoint is on the south side of the castle and #3 on the north. On that part of the map most racers jumped into the water as I showed with the white line so they could bypass most of the ads on the way to #2. Then they fought through the ads at the back and at #3 and then passed over the bridge marked as a Choke Point. One racer did try to avoid the Choke Point by driving in the water but they got blocked by the rocks halfway along just north of the very first check point and had to turn back and take a slope onto the shoreline.

 

There was a bit more discussion on the reddit post for the event earlier in the week and I made it clear at the start of the event in teamspeak that the white line I drew on the map was a recommended path, the racers did not have to stick to it so long as they crossed the check points in order.

The only rule for the killers was that they were not allowed to engage the racers before the first check point or choke point (whichever point came first). The lava bridge was a lot of fun and only 1-2 people got killed there. Most of the killers focused on the first people to hit the bridge so the rest of the racers sped past.

Ilum Course

 

I ran all the courses myself with characters on both factions before I created the maps and posted the event. Looking from a world map point of view it does look like the race goes straight through the middle of the bases but the reality is it skirts the outside, it's just a fat white line I drew. The recommended route does go through the Rep base at the south but if you go across the south side where the Battle Master spawns there are not many ads and it's easy to get past. This balances out with the racers having to pass Imperial Waystation on the way to #2. Sure, if a racer is not paying attention they could run into guards but that they have to make a mistake for that to happen. Same could be said for accidentally falling into the Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine. During today's race nobody was killed by the guards.

 

There is nothing in your rules about outside interference and there should be.

I've been running server events in this game for over 3 years across multiple servers and one of the first lessons I learned was that there is nothing you can do about outside interference if you are dealing with openworld events. If you waste time trying to prevent trolls screwing with events then you are letting them win. For Wacky Racers we decided that outsiders trying to kill the killers and racers made things more interesting. Didn't stop the pod racers so why let it stop us? :)
