Sam_K Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Trying the game out again after a few years (assuming I can get the system crashes resolved, but that's another thread), and trying to figure out what class to play. I like light sabres so I know I prefer force user classes, but since I have quite limited playtime these days I thought I'd check if there's currently any class that is nerfed into uselessness (or the opposite, totally broken OP) at the moment? Will probably mostly be doing story content, some 4 mans with a friend (and 2 companions) and maybe some battlegrounds, so flexibility and being able to solo are probably more important than being "the best at X in raids/ranked PVP). And yeah, I know, "play what you like"! That's why I'm only asking about force classes
Dragondog Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 For solo content, it doesn't really matter.
JediQuaker Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Basically it's a matter of what "style" of play you like. Jedi Knights/Sith Warriors are more for melee - getting up close and damaging with lightsabers (or swords). Jedi Consulars/Sith Inquisitors are more for ranged attacks (and some melee) - more often just blasting the enemies with force attacks. I don't think any class is particularly under or over powered for PvE. My personal (force) favourites are the Jedi Sentinel (Knight) and Sith Marauder (Warrior)
Halinalle Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 (edited) Jedi Consulars/Sith Inquisitors are more for ranged attacks (and some melee) - more often just blasting the enemies with force attacks. Please, stop right there. We already have way too many ranged shadows/assassins I don't think any class is particularly under or over powered for PvE. Not even Shadows/Assassins with their double stance bug? Edited January 13, 2017 by Halinalle
Flyguybc Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I LOVE LOVE LOVE playing my Jedi Knight. The story was AMAZING, and I felt it really married into the expansion story line well. As mentioned the knight is melee. I love it because I feel like as a Defense Guardian I can just leap in and start going wild with my saber. I really feel like I'm in their dueling, reflecting blaster bolts, doing flips. There's also good mobility in it too so I feel like I can move around the battlefield well. Plus the Guardian has 3 modes. Defense Tank, Vigilance single DPS, Focus AOE DPS. So its a very flexible class. It was my first character and is still my favorite.
Docdim Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Hi I'm DoctorDim, and I'm a Knight-aholic. Specifically, Vigilance Guardian (and mirror Vengeance Jugg). So, I'm biased. I've read that the Telekinetics Sage / Lightning Sorc is seriously gimped for end-game PvE. But for leveling through Ziost (end of SoR) it is not a problem (just finished a run). Though I admit that yes, it's single-target DPS is somewhat limited. but repeating what everyone says: A) For leveling, any will do, and ... B) Yeah, it is personal choice
JediQuaker Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Please, stop right there. We already have way too many ranged shadows/assassins Enough for what? Enough for you? The OP is mostly just a PvE player, so it doesn't matter to him how many other shadows there are. Not even Shadows/Assassins with their double stance bug? Actually I haven't played either my Shadow or my Assassin since 5.0 started, so I'm not aware of any bug. In any case, relying on a bug to assess the status of a class is likely to fail when (if) the bug is fixed.
KitKatDave Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) As stated above the Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior are melee oriented where you can choose to be either heavily offensive with the Sentinel and Marauder class (Wielding 2 sabers) or to be a Tank with the Guardian and Juggernaut. On the other side the Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor are more Force based. Specializing in the Sage or Sorcerer class grants you the option to be a Healer or a short to mid-range attacker whereas the Shadow and Assassin classes are stealthy, being able to camouflage and wielding a double-bladed lightsaber. Those are the differences in combat styles, as for the story; the Jedi Knight is basicly the 'main' storyline of the game meaning that for many new players this is the go-to class. But personally i believe the Sith Inquisitor's story to be just as good. And while the Consular and Warriors story are also very fun to play, theyre not my favorites. If youre not truely fixated on playing as a force user, i heavily recommend the Imperial Agent class, in my opinion by far the most interesting story of the bunch.
