I was a founder. I played in Beta, pre-ordered the deluxe edition and played the Hell out of this game until about the time that they went free to play. I became disillusioned, maybe bored and left. Maybe there was a new WoW expansion?

I decided to try it again and it brought back the fond memories. Maybe it was the new Star wars movie that aroused the Star wars geek in me, but I not only subscribed again, my wife did too.

Having a blast, but SOOO much has changed. I was greeted by tons of mail, gear from my companions, some of whom no longer wear gear. Crafting has completely changed (and I broke the bank learning new recipes). The way speeders work has changed.

Apparently, everything I thought I knew about stats has also changed. I went in search of a good guide, and there is so much outdated info on the web, that some of it is simply wrong. I really have no idea which stats I should be going for, and with all the abilities and spells, with differing cool downs, figuring out rotations has been difficult. While I am breezing through levelling content, I am getting annihilated in warzones.

Can someone point me to a guide or fan site that will help me through the transition of relearning the nuances of the game. Perhaps point out the stuff I might be missing in the changed game (The Cartel stuff alone is mind boggling!)

Thanks to the designers for the improvements. Thanks to any players who can help me.

First of all: Welcome back!

So much have changed, where to begin:

For 1-69 level content mainly:

- Stats have been simplified, the individual stats have been replaced with Mastery, which is the main stat for all classes

- There is no separate PvE and PvP gear now

- You must choose an advanced class at level 1 now

- Within advanced classes, there are disciplines for different roles (heal, dps, tank)

- Leveling is much faster, you can skip a lot of content

- Companions can be made any role now (healer, dps, tank), and their gear stats does not matter (cosmetic only)

- Keeping up with gear is not necessary, just use what drops

- Level sync: your level is always synced to the planet on which you are, no matter what level you are

- If you want to pvp, I suggest filling all your gear slots, puts you on even footing in gear at least with the rest of the crowd (suggest to pick up the first daily and weekly, one of them drops gear for all your slots)

- Crafting: companion bonuses are now general and not specific to a crew skill

- Crafting: there are only two tiers of craftable gear now, blue and purple

- Crafting: Reengineering chance have been increased to 60%

- Servers: there are no specific PvE, PvP, RP servers, there are PvE and PvP instances of each planet. There are many dead (unpopulated) servers, make sure to choose a populated server (ask in this thread, stating your geographical region), if you want to enjoy group content, or choose to transfer your toons to one, until the cost of it is reduced (for a limited time).

If you have time away from the game, hit up the patch notes and read those.

Most importantly, 4.0, 4.1 (crafting) and 5.0.

Don't worry about endgame (level 70), also called Galactic Command, yet.

Not sure if Dulfy was around at the time you played, but search for dulfy dot net, it is full of guides for 5.0 (the current version), it might not have all classes and disciplines yet, however.

Also, look for a friendly and social guild, where they welcome you and can answer any question that just comes up as you play.

Enjoy the game and welcome back!
