It decides whether you are Dark Side or Light Side. It's decides the story up to that point. It can make you lose companions. It decides what crew skills you get.

I mean I'd be pissed if I actually paid for one. It's almost $20 for one. For that price one would think they would give you some options.

The devs said the token would do all of that before it was released, and the concept of the token is more for people who wanted to do end game content without having to grind to the level cap, and not ideal for people who want to do just the story. It's not perfect by any means, but you do have the option making a new character from level 1 to ensure that you can make the decisions you want.

Why would anyone pay to skip the real game and jump straight in to the Valkorion family soap-opera anyway?

As a guess, maybe rolling a FOTM PvP Commando but not wanting to cringe through the Trooper storyline? You can't really put a price tag too high on that.

There aren't actually many ways in which your class story and even a lot of decisions you make in the expansion content influences the story / dialog of FE / ET. So I can see why someone wouldn't mind skipping everything to get to the current story arc of FE / ET. People who have already gone though a specific class story who also want to try the other advanced class for that class may want to use a boost. There's also people who want a boosted character just for the extra level 500 crew skills and companions to send on missions.
