mwilmore Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 So I'm coming back to SWTOR and have been really enjoying the new stories. My only issue is the button bloat in this game is getting out of control. I have been going through the stories with several toons (Jedi Sent, Jedi Consular and Imp Operative) and is seems that many of the skills are so situational and/or similar to another skill that I never use them. Why can't some of these skills be consolidated and/or removed all together? Just an observation from someone who hasn't played this game in a while.
HeatRacer Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Well, you don't HAVE to use all your abilities. I'm sure you'll get along just fine with whatever your favorite moves are. And if someone does more damage from utilizing a full rotation of abilities, then that's a perfectly acceptable reward for those willing to learn and use all the tools at their disposal.

Wow, you assume too much. I never said I don't learn my classes. I merely stated that the number of buttons, skill, utility or otherwise was getting to be a bit much. Sorry to have offended your delicate sensibilities. It's not unheard of for game developers to evaluate their games for efficiencies, including game play by skill flow. But hey, if you need to push a bunch of extra buttons to make the game better for you then by all means. Enjoy.
CrazyOldMystic Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 OP let me be clear NO!!!!!!! It was because of people like you the vanguard lost full auto and the powertech unload. It was because of people like you mercs lost there upercut and flamethrower. It was because of people like you assassins lost force lightning. Your attitude begs the question. If your finding this game too complicated because of too many abilities, then how on earth are you holding down a job? This button bloat bull drives me up the wall because all it is at base is a argument to nerf the hell out of the game and make it as bland as possible.

My question is, why would a soldier complain because fighting wasn't /difficult/ enough? Any sensible person would try to make getting the job done easier, not more difficult so you can feel proud of yourself for being able to press a screenful of buttons in the right order like a lab rat. Honestly, if you need even more buttons to press just to enjoy playing, that's your problem, not ours. .

I was simply making an observation from a player that has not played the game for a while. And for what its worth, my opinion is as valid as yours. You want a ton of buttons to push to make the game fun, go right ahead, lobby for more. For the record, I'm sorry you lost all your precious extra buttons. Merry Christmas
Nyla Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 They already cleaned some stuffs with expansions. The main problem I have with your post is you said you went through the stories with several toons. The thing is, the game is not just the stories, there's more. I can agree with you that for doing stories, all the abilities are not needed but they are for other parts of the game. Just checking on my merc healer I was playing a few minutes ago and I use at least 30+ different skills in warzones... As for things being out of control, that's not the case, that's how this game was designed. It's not a game in which you have 10/12 abilities and that's all. Thoses 30+ skills have a purpose, just because you don't need them all for a specific kind of content doesn't mean they aren't usefull in others parts of the game. Personnally I don't like MMOs i played that had 10/12 abilities available at a time. I felt either bored because a lack of depth or annoyed by the restriction to choose only 10/12 abilities while I enjoy having to choose in fight between 20 or 30 abilities in games like this one.

Thank you very much for a thoughtful reply. I admit that the number of skills can be a bit much for someone who has not played for a while, so yes it seems a bit much. And yes, all I've managed so far are the new stories. Maybe once I dig deeper I'll change my perspective. Happy Holidays!
