So, what is the deal with them ? Each gift used to cost 30 comms before, i came back to the game after the "big change", now they cost 250k for A SINGLE gift ?! Fo real ? you gotta be *********** kidding me...

Don't even say that this is "Working as intended."

FFS bioware.

How's everyone ok with this ? With this price, what used to be a huge grind will be even worse...

Ignore them. I haven't checked the Odessen one but the fleet vendor also sells the blue and purple gifts for 5k and 10k respectively.

One of those legendary ones equals roughly 6 blue ones or 3 purple ones.

So if you buy 3 purple gifts for 30k, you get slightly more points for one legendary one for 250k. Why rob yourself blind if you can get it cheaper? You just have to click more often but at that price difference, it should be worth it. The legendary ones should cost no more than 30k to be worth it.

It's either a big **** up or they are counting on most people not being able to do this basic math and being suckered into buying these or from the GTN for 100K or something stupid.

This is why it's good to be able to do basic math.

I tried asking about this vendor on the stream the other day, but the chat spam was too quick. The conversion rate from 30 green comms to 250k is ridiculous. Yet Eric essentially alluded to the fact that the upcoming "master" chapter modes will be damn near impossible without a level 50 companion

Again, buy purple gifts instead. You will save 220k each time you buy 3 purple gifts.

Didn't BioWare themselves set the conversion rate at 500 credits per common data crystal? Odessen gifts should be costing 15000 at that rate... If you hit the 2mil credit cap on the conversion, you could only get eight gifts? Tf, BioWare?

Blah blah, Fleet, blah. Odessen price still needs fixing.

Purples and blues from the fleet vendor are the best value. Around 4.7m for a level 50 companion from level 1. If you want less clicks, you need to stump up the extra credits. It is what it is.

You forgot the time factor. There are a whole lot of threads here of folks complaining about having to press their little mouse buttons, wait 3 seconds and press their button again to give them gift after gift.

BioWare did indeed tell us our effort was only worth 15k for 30 Crystals. So those gifts should indeed be 15k following BioWare mathematics.

I'm not sure it's the players who can't do the math.

Price is dumb, as are anyone who pays it.

I didn't forget it. Just didn't mention it because from my point of view, if clicking ine gift instead of three is worth 220k credits for you each round of three gifts, then I wish you well with that.

This price is probably just a way to justify spending 1 million on the character perks that speed up companion gift opening.

I know, I saw, but that ignores the issue that the Odessen gift vendor is stupidly overpriced based on what we were given per the conversion ratios.

Well I didn't think I needed to elaborate on that.

They are overpriced. Way overpriced. So what more should we say about it then?

Eh, I think the idea of it was to remove excess credits from circulation. The only people who will use it are those sitting on billions of credits, the rest of us will just buy the level 5 gifts and spend 3x as long clicking. But if it does have a deflationary effect on credits in the game, I'm honestly not going to complain as there is a pretty good alternative.

Or people will just start farming the heroics to get the gifts, bringing even more credits into the game....

Indeed, it actually allows for a potential player position in the market with a fairly fixed credit return on time investment. No one would grind them for sale at 15k a pop as the top market price. There is a lot of width for productive players to fill between the 30k price of purple fleet equivalents and the 250k odessan gifts. Not sure if intended, but nice to have as a option for the players. These used to sell for around 50-70k on the GTN and that would still seem to be a fair price. Maybe the devs were mindful of the player market for these? Can we be generous enough to think they might have been?

It's very over the top. Someone was smoking some funny herbs when they made that conversion

It's so lame of BioWare to offer us an option and then do their best to totally discourage everyone from using it.

This isn't the first time they've done this. Unfortunately it won't be the last.

Hey Ben Irving, this is crap and you know it.

The companion gift vendor on Odessen is an obvious credit sink. There are far too many credits in the game and inflation is nuts. When some of the most sought after items are going for 30 million credits at the minimum, there is a serious issue with the economy. I'd be surprised if the average subscriber even has 10 million credits.

More than likely this was done intentionally to try and deceive folks into wasting credits. Obviously, folks are just better off using the companion vendor on the fleet. Only someone who is either ignorant or lazy would use the Odessen vendor.

Posted

Well, I have been using level 5 purples from fleet. At 10k each, it costs about 4.3 million credits or so from rank 1 to 50. It does take some time though.

As for the 250k creds on Odessan, we all know that wasn't a fair conversion rate.

30 Common Data Crystals x 500 credits each (that they gave us) = 15,000 credits

Just another way for Bioware to screw us.

I do think, on the surface, this was likely a move that lacked wisdom, but that really depends on the intent.

If the intent was to create a viable credit sink, I would say the change would likely fail miserably. The price is FAR too high to encourage the kind of expenditures needed to make it a viable sink IMO compared to the relative benefit or appeal.

And THAT is completely ignoring its status prior to this change. It is more likely, IMO, folks will simply ignore the vendor, as they do many others in the game.

Now, if they had some other intent perhaps the price point makes sense...of course it would be nice if they shared that intent to make sense of it all IMO.

IMO, the following changes would make it a far better sink....

1) Make all level 6 companion gifts bind to legacy, removing them from the market entirely.

2) Increase the influence payout 400 percent or reduce the cost to 1/4 of its current cost.

Then, and only then IMO would the value be high enough to encourage folks to "pony up" so to speak.

Why are we intent on removing things from the market and only using vendors to sell things? There was a market for these on the GTN in 4.0, there is still a market after 5.0... if they had dropped the price of them to equal to or less than the equivalent purple price, they would have pissed on the player market for them. There is a cheap solution in game already and they have steered clear from the player end of that same line.

We seem to literally whine about anything and everything.
