Anybody could please explain me Balance Sage PvP purpose?

Hello,

I used to play some years ago and came back to play this expansion.

I used to play in ranked teams both on my shadow and my Sorc, which I have not played so far.

Back at the time (2014) and today, I can totally change a WZ outcome on my Shadow. Yes some WZs tend to see you stuck into guarding duty for a lot of time but even there, you can still do some pretty neat stuff.

However I have to say, losing phase walk has been a real blow when playing guard games.

I'd say today's Shadow has some less utility but it's still ok.

On the contrary, I rolled a Balance Sage... and I find her to be quite pointless.

It's not like I can't do some decent healing and damage, but it's... just worth display numbers. Nobody with a brain cell should ever die from the slow, steady damage.

When I played Sorc back in 2014 I was welcome as DPS in ranked teams, but I am really ashamed to ask to join as DPS today. It looks like heal spec is way, way more significant, battle changing (when played "ranked quality" I mean), whereas as Balance it feels like... fluff. 2014 Sorc was way better. Less toys maybe, more killing and - I think - better healing.

I have learned that when I see 2+ other Sages in a WZ I am safe to leave, the battle is lost before it's started. They are all going to cast the useless force quake / in balance and some easily cleansed DoTs here and there (I cleanse those sorcs put on me all the time). Ok it's a sturdy spec, hard to kill... but that's it. Team worth = zero, ranked team worth = sub zero.

Am I missing something?

I think you are. While dps sage/sorc has been nerfed, I still personally find it to be my favorite way to play. I mostly play ranked also as a dps sage and I am above 1600 already.

I find that as a dps sage I need to be mindful of who is queueing because I don't want to be a liability to my team. 5.0 is the first time I needed to consider this because of the way other classes can mess my day up. If I know healers are in queue, I will only queue as heals. Like you stated, my dots are easy to heal through but sometimes with the help of other dps we can shut someone down. I only play balance, I've never played TK/lightning though so you might find someone who has better luck on a TK sage.

In the hands of a good player, I still think sage/sorc dps is deadly. We are still one of hte best to kite with despite our numbers being nerfed. I've outlasted most classes by being able to dot, dot, kite.

To clarify, you can't cleanse PVP dots anymore, you can cleanse the added effects (bonus damage, stun, etc.).

Team worth = great for defense due to how long you can survive with dot heals and offheals. Ranked team worth = I'm doing great for my team so maybe you are/have encountered people who need more practice.
