ErradanValinor
Just a nice little discussion thread for Rogue One once people start seeing it. I wanna hear how people liked it. Obviously, please be courteous and don't post spoilers. I, myself just got finished seeing it. Absolutely loved it!!! Lots of little easter eggs that play into the Original Trilogy. Be on the lookout for them. The story itself is pretty great, but it does have some down points. I agree with one review, which said the film has a lot of locations. The film showcases a couple of new planets and constantly switches between them kinda killing any momentum a scene has going to tell us something else. Also, I feel like save for Jyn and Cassian, the rest of the members of Rogue One don't get a lot of character development. Other than that, fabulous movie and one of the better entries in the Star Wars Saga. I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10.
gabigool
I'm going tomorrow at 10:00am. I'm bringing my (almost) 10 year-old son. He loved the original trilogy and TFA. I mean, loved them. But he really struggled with the prequels, in that they didn't really hold his interest. I'm curious how you suspect RO will resonate with kids. It's really hard to say how he'd like it. There are some good action set pieces, especially the final act. Those might keep his attention better than the prequels did. The tone of the film is darker than what we've seen from RoTS or TFA. I found myself saying "oh *insert excrement*" a few times because I knew something was gonna happen during a scene, and when it did, the execution of the scene was surprising. In a good or shocking way.
NCVens
Watched it yesterday evening. Loved it! Went with friends who were not impressed by the force awakens and they both said that this was the star wars movie they were waiting for. It's not a kid movie. It's more darker than any Star Wars movie so far, more of a war movie. I have no kids myself, so i have no clue at what age this would be an appropriate film to watch, but it's quite heavy at times.
SithKoriandr
Enjoyed it. Loved the very last scene. The audience cheered at the movie, which is always a good sign. Going in, you kinda know what's going to happen, but it's an enjoyable ride as they do!
Vinak
Much better than Force Awakens thats for sure. Still some silly/cringe worthy parts though.
gabigool
Update - my son actually loved it. As did I. I was a bit worried he wouldn't be able to keep some of the characters straight - given how often they were talked about when not on screen early in the movie - but he sorted it out. Jumped the shark a bit towards the end but all in all I had a blast watching it.
Pirana
Thought it was very good. Will certainly satisfy the die hard Star Wars fans. Ties up some loose ends going back to the original. Make sure you watch the last thirty minutes of the movie though, one of the best, if not the best scene in the entire movie franchise.
Jeweledleah
loved it. act 3 literally kept me on the edge of my seat. one of the ongoing thoughts, while watching was: "I have GOT to catch up on clone wars and Rebels, I'm definitely missing a lot of references there"
Hichitsuki-hime
just came back from watching it =) made a VERY good impression. the movie fit right into the slot that it was supposed to take if that makes sense. a little sad that the entire rogue-1 crew died, but well, i guess deep down it was expected. but this one was definitely much better than episode 7. K2 was an awesome droid lol, wish our ship droid had a personality like that hehe:D:D

FlavivsAetivs
I saw it on release day, it was fantastic. Really, really, really good. Episode 7 sucked, it was just a cheap rehash of the original. It didn't have Jar Jar, or the love scenes of 2 and 3, and it had a plot, so it was probably in line in quality with the prequels, but other than that I didn't like it at all. I saw it twice and both times walked out of the theater disappointed. Rogue One, by comparison, was probably the best experience I've ever had with a movie. It had the right amount of light hearted humor, but as a whole was a rather dark film. It's kind of hard to top the blaster-toting stormtrooper-slaying Chuck Norris of Star Wars who stole the Death Star plans, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and actually claim Rogue One was as good as Jedi Knight: Dark Forces, maybe even better than it. I loved the movie. Going to see it a second time soon, might see it a third. ~ Eudoxia Edited December 17, 2016 by FlavivsAetivs
DarthDymond
Saw it yesterday and really, really liked it. I see why many people rank it right after ESB, but I can't quite bring myself to put it above ANH. (My list is V - IV - R1 & VII (tied) - VI & III (tied) - II - I). There were some things I didn't love - the characters ended up being fairly shallow since the movie was so focused on the plot (but what we did see of them was awesome); Forest Whittaker was really underused; I got full-on uncanny valley effect with the two 'familiar faces' we saw; there is a bizarre creature scene that seemed superfluous; there may have been one or two too many 'fanservice' moments for my taste; and the first act was pretty disjointed. But, for me, what this movie did right totally eclipsed those minor gripes. Every one of the action sequences - the space battles, the land battles, and the smaller-scale action-adventure caper sequences - was fantastic. The movie successfully had me feeling the emotions was it was trying to evoke at each stage (even when it had me saying "oh, damn you movie, how could you?" it was in a good way). It committed to being a dark movie without going so bleak that it killed the overall enjoyment of it - this was a great example of a deliberately mature genre movie not coming across as 'oh, look how edgy and serious we are'. The visuals were amazing, especially at capturing a sense of scale while also making it feel like the characters were physically present in them. And when a certain character really gets to cut loose near the end of the movie it was one of the best scenes I have seen in a Star Wars movie. Saw it in standard format because I went with some friends who have issues with 3D, but I am hoping to catch it again soon in IMAX 3D. Definitely a great addition to the Star Wars saga. Monumenta
Is it just me or is the droids cameo in the hangar cause a continuity error? Movie was excellent, loved the Rebels crossovers, thought the score, especially the title sequence, was a little sub standard. eriksarcasm
Is it just me or is the droids cameo in the hangar cause a continuity error? Movie was excellent, loved the Rebels crossovers, thought the score, especially the title sequence, was a little sub standard. Agree on the score, it was bothering me the entire time. Giacchino is no John Williams. Talk about continuity errors, the entire premise of Galen Erso deliberately building the fatal flaw into the Death Star design directly coontradicts the original film, where they had to analyze the plans to try to find a weakness. Great characters, great cameos, great CGI work, great plot, and the third act is the best sequence of the entire series, especially the final minutes of the film. Vader at the end was worth the price of admission alone. That and his scenes in the final episode of Rebels Season 2 are everything Darth Vader should be. I'd give it a full 5 stars but for one glaring thing that very nearly made me walk out immediately. You all know what I'm talking about. It just isn't Star Wars without it. DarthDymond
Is it just me or is the droids cameo in the hangar cause a continuity error? How so? In that same extended sequence (can't remember if it was a scene or two before or after we see the droids) we hear Bail Organa saying "Captain Antilles, I have a mission for you" right after talking to Mon Mothma, so the Tantive IV was there at Yavin, with some of the crew at the ground base. It then left with the Rebel flagship (with Antilles and the droids back onboard) as part of the fleet going to Scarif, as we find out at the very end. Talk about continuity errors, the entire premise of Galen Erso deliberately building the fatal flaw into the Death Star design directly coontradicts the original film, where they had to analyze the plans to try to find a weakness. The way I took it - Galen built in the flaw and told them generally where to look - that it was connected to the reactor. It's not exactly labeled "shoot here to blow up" in the plans themselves, so they still had to analyze the plans to find the flaw he told them would be there. And I believe they were still at a point where they were hoping what they'd been told was legit - a lot of the rebels weren't convinced going in, hence the fracturing at the council scene. The scene with Bail was before by several minutes and the droids are chatting about people leaving for Scarif as people run by, acting as if they had no intentions of boarding a ship. Ive seen it 3 times now. Edited December 19, 2016 by Monumenta
DarthDymond
acting as if they had no intentions of boarding a ship. That actually kind of sounds right up C-"I can assure you they will never get me onto one of those dreadful starships"-Threepio's alley; an implied Gilligan Cut, without the actual cut. Psychopyro
I was actually disappointed with it to be honest. My wife actually fell asleep. We almost left early. It just felt "forced" into that slot.
