So not being a fan of MMOs I'm playing the game entirely as a singleplayer game, I've really enjoyed the storylines and the dialogue is really solid, at least in the IA and SW storylines. Brings some much needed shades of gray to the SW universe in my opinion. I finished the main questline for the SW recently and am now starting with the rest of the content (on Makeb ATM). I subbed originally just for the bonus XP that they were giving out a while ago (the 12x bonus or whatever it was). Am I still getting bonus XP from being a sub now that I'm past the main quest content? I absolutely hate grinding so if being a sub is still sparing me from that I'll keep it, but any PVP considerations, special gear or whatever don't really matter to me. (since IIRC free accounts can only play so many flashpoints - I only play FPs once for the story so I don't think it really matters to me what the limit is) Edited by NoxNoctum

If you are playing for the story really dont need a subscription. By subbing once you got all the content in the game and that will not go away once you are preffered.

That is actually the problem of the game, everything is accessible just with one sub that you then cancel right away. So yes, u can cancel your sub and keep enjoying the game further on.

I've been subbed since it first went live, and even beta-tested the game. Besides the 500 Cartel Coins every month, I don't have to worry about some of the lock-outs that hit preferred players. It's also less money than going to the movies for a game that has given me 5 years of entertainment and will continue to entertain me for (hoping) another five.

One of the factors that keep some players subbed is the credits cap: non-subs have a 350k per character cap on credits; anything above and beyond the cap goes into "escrow". This may not be a big deal for you.

Another thing to consider is the convenience factor. If $15/month is not a hardship, just the fact that you can do anything and everything and NEVER have to worry about it, might be worth keeping your sub active.

Lastly, as a preferred player - by default - you will be limited to 6 active characters. I know you only have two at the moment, but there are six other class stories to do, not to mention different genders, different alignments, romances. Point being that one can easily create several dozen distinct characters to get every possible variation of the stories. If you are OK with creating a character to play through the story and then deleting that character, then this is not a problem.

This is not entirely true anymore - mostly, but not entirely. You must be subbed to do Galactic Command. If you let your sub run out and drop to preferred, you can still level up to 70, and do all the story content along the way, but once you hit 70, without access to GC you will be stuck.

I suppose this won't be much of a factor for the OP, since if he's not interested in group content, he won't be interested in or have much need for "end game" gear. But for other folks, it's crucial.

Actually, now you get 8 character slots, which covers all classes, and that is per server. Source: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/star-wars/star-wars-the-old-republic/character-slots-and-active-characters-in-swtor/

To the OP: honestly, if you are asking the question, you probably don't need to keep subbing. Since you are not interested in group content and PvP, you gain next to none for subscription. The only reason to do so would be if you REALLY want to be a patron to Bioware. None of the restrictions are going to influence you, if you only play singleplayer.

The 12x experience gain has always affected F2P players as well. Subs only get an additional 20% boost. You can easily reach max level before your story ends by doing the Class and Planetary missions, so there is no grind. If it is all for the story for you, just make sure you were subbed on the 27th of Nov, so that you have access to the newest expansion, and thus all possible stories.

If your getting bored of the game you could unsub but I suggest you resub when a new expansion comes out but there are always more things you can do for example build up credits, do warzones, make your stronghold look like a horrifying sith temple. There is always something to do in a MMO. But if you do leave I suggest trying World of Warcraft that's what I do when I get bored.

I subbed mainly because of the new expansion. I knew that Kotet would not have chapters like in Kotfe. That doesn't exactly mean I am going to keep on playing. I had some things I needed to do in the game subbed but now I can relax and play other games/
