Young_Raldo
So, I've been able to dig up some old threads for this issue, but they were from like 5 years ago and did not necessarily pertain to my situation (at least the threads I found). Running Windows 8.1 Professional 8 GB of RAM i5 Quad Core CPU (4690k) EVGA GTX 960 FTW GPU Just about every single time I log out and go to exit the game, it just hangs on a black screen with the yellow/gold mouse cursor still present. I then have to Ctrl+Alt+Del, go into task manager, and then kill the swtor.exe process (which reports that it is not responding btw). The old threads I found were for XP machines, and I didn't really see any solid fix or suggestion. Well, it's now 5 years later, and I'm wondering if there are any suggestions/fixes for this issue? Repair to be run? Files/Patches to be installed? Anything? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
AbsolutGrndZero
I JUST started having this problem with 5.0, didn't before. I'm on Windows 10 myself. In my case though, unlike yours, I can't even do the CTRL-ALT-DEL thing. I have to hit the reset button and reboot my entire PC.
demotivator
Same (on Windows 10). Happens quite often since 5.0 and I have to kill the process. Edited December 3, 2016 by demotivator
Andryah
I can confirm this as well. I'm running windows 8.1 It does not do it all the time, and it's not a huge issue to force it to close, but clearly it is something new about the client with the 5.0 patch. Young_Raldo
Well it's at least reassuring (i think) to know it's not just me. Although, I'm not sure I would personally say that it's from the 5.0 update. This was happening to me even before the 5.0 update, and it's been reported in the past as well. But obviously, there seems to be some kind of compatibility issue with the swtor executable and Windows. Bioware, what up?

Yeah... there is a thread up in the bug report forum, so I'm sure Tait will see it. I encourage people to bug report it in game as well.
ForceShaman
Same here - not every single time, but 99% Just started doing this with 5.
Darevsool
I'm getting this a lot too. CTL-ALT-Del then sign out of Windows. You can log back in. Faster than a reboot.
Parkooth
I have this problem too, and my workaround is to log out of character, then press Windows key to minimize game. Right-click on SWTOR icon on taskbar & click Close (or Exit - I can't remember which).
CaptRogue
Same here, only started after the patch if I recall. Running 10 myself. Only does it periodically too. Not every time I log out. Edited December 3, 2016 by CaptRogue
tummiswtor
Same here, Windows 10. But i had same problem on Windows 7 sometimes.
Gabrandt
Happened to me since 5.0. Running Windows 7. I found a workaround in logging off before shutting down the game, rather than trying to quit the game while logged into my toon.
stoopicus
Every quit since 5.0 for me. Patch did not fix it.
Kenthros
Yup, i have been having this trouble as well. but it seems for me that if i exit game logged into a character it does it 100% of the time. if i exit the game from the server selection or character selection screen it exits fine. TrigPt
If I logout to character selection and then quit the game the client closes okay. If I quit whilst in game on a character the client hangs and crashes.
americanaussie
If I logout to character selection and then quit the game the client closes okay. If I quit whilst in game on a character the client hangs and crashes. It hangs now both ways for me. I have to sign out of windows.
rbl_holmes
Same. Win7. Doesn't matter if I logout first. Workaround: ALT-F4, works every time.
Dunderheid
even alt+F4 doesn't work for me Only way for me to close the game is ctrl+alt+del and use Task Manager to close the program, or quit every 10-15 mins. Does this sound like a memory leak? Win 10 here and this is only since 5.0. Edited December 4, 2016 by Dunderheid
Sarova
Me and my two rl friends who play also have this issue, but only since the first maintenance/server shut down the other day (the one where they fixed the exploit). ETA: Instead of quitting whilst logged on a character, DO THIS: Hit "escape" and click "log out" on character selection screen choose "EXIT" to quit the game I can confirm this avoids the fail quit crap. Rolodome
Does this sound like a memory leak? SWTOR has definitely had noticeable memory leaks in the past, but something to do with 5.0 and/or 5.0a seems to have ramped it way up.

JOrifice
Same here. Try this: Instead of logging out normally, exit to the Character Select screen, then Alt-Tab out and close the program from the Desktop (Hit the 'X' on the Icon, use Taskmaster, whatever you need to do). Interesting. Sounds like that may be where the screwup happened. Out of curiosity, what kind of unpredictable side effects are you thinking of? I know something about programming, but I'm not really familiar with working on a game engine itself. Partly, I'm curious because it's easy to blame them for the problem, but if their code is a mess and tinkering can have weird side effects, it may be that their mistake was tinkering at all. If you run in full screen and swtor is the only program running, you have to use Windows+Tab, because in windows 10 Alt+Tab moves between open windows and if there is only one open window.......... Bioware doesn't have a monopoly on strange programming.. Edited December 4, 2016 by Dunderheid

I am hitting over 200 fps in-game now @2560 x 1440 use to be limited to around 110 fps so that is one change have noticed with the engine after this patch. Have not had issues exiting yet (touch wood) Will be Keeping an eye on this thread at present
