Omnisclent Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 This thing really confuses me. In my appearance thing, it's there but when I enable it, together or separately for individual things, nothing changes on any of my characters. What does Unify Colors do, exactly?
Erevan_Kindelar Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Unify Colours changes the colour palette on your character's gear to match what is currently selected in your Chest-piece. So if you have a mish-mash of different armours in various colours, it will all look vaguely set-like. If the palette change is not showing when you click "Unify Colours", you are probably changing the actual gear colours but you are currently displaying a different set of gear on an Appearance tab (on the right edge of the Character screen).
PseronWyrd Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Also, some gear does not change colors. I ran into this with my recent Warrior. She equipped a white robe bottom from a quest award with a black chest piece. I tried to use the Unify Colors button to unify the bottom and top, but the bottom remained white. My hunch is that apparel only changes color if it has a dye slot. So, I'm guessing, a lot of lower-level gear may not change color at all. Edited December 3, 2015 by PseronWyrd
eldefail Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I think it has to do with the primary and secondary colors the armor originally had. I've encountered gear that didn't seem to unify well, if at all, because it was already the same primary and secondary color scheme, and there are tertiary colors that may not unify at all (like certain 'camo' bounty hunter armor pieces). Also, if you're wearing say a set of mission rewards they often already have the same color schemes. Like the Rugged Smuggler set from Ord Mantell, I don't know if any of the Rugged Smuggler pieces will change color when you unify colors to the Rugged Smuggler chestpiece because they're already the same color schemes. Note that when you unify colors it unifies to your chest piece. Every single other checked piece of gear should recolor to the chestpiece's color scheme, but it doesn't always work out aesthetically.
SteveTheCynic Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Not all CM gear dyes / unifies well. The most egregious example that I've found is the Silent Ghost set, where less that half of each piece will change colour. Not to mention a pair of knee length boots I found somewhere on one toon where when I dyed them with a black/deep red unify, turned about 95% red.
eldefail Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Leveling a sniper to 65 I got a spiffy Imperialesque gear set, it's mostly different shades of gray. I previewd a white and dark green dye set I had in my inventory and my preview gave me a white top and black everything else, no green in sight, it looked awful lol.
Mithros Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Different pieces of gear have different amounts of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. You will have to look at each piece to see what is being changed. Sometimes carefully. On the commando elite custom armor chest, for example, the "seconday" color is not at all prominent. See all the brown on the back? That is tertiary despite occupying nearly the same amount of space as the primary. You can not change that. The actual secondary? It's a thin stripe down the side of the undersuit. That's it. But if you unify colors, that secondary that is barely noticeable on the chest piece might be very noticeable on other pieces of gear.
