SithVincere Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Hello all, I have recently returned to playing after a long while. I hear you can level faster now with just story missions and planet missions albeit im not sure what planet missions are? My main concern is that I have been given a free level 60 token, which is lovely, but I have used it and been given a character with a blank canvas in terms of light and dark side, which worried me a bit because after finishing my story on my main character I had well over 7000 dark side points, my question is on the new level 60 how can I achieve these points quick?? (For roleplay reasons if anyone was going to post that they dont effect anything etc etc. ) Thanks!
Erevan_Kindelar Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Game mechanic-wise, the easiest/quickest ways to get Dark or Light side points is to get the Diplomacy skill and run the relevant alignment missions with a companion, and also to repeatedly run Esseles/Black Talon to pick up 250 (iirc) alignment points per run. How you square that with your desire to fit into role-play, well you cannot really. Aligning with the Dark or Light is generally supposed to be a gradual process as an accumulation of decisions one way or the other. Not a huge dump of points in one go from a neutral position. The exception would be a catastrophic event that is not represented in the story arc. So unless you RP something outside the arc that the game gives you, you are SOL.

Is Black Talon/Esseles soloable and how long does it take to do? I want to roleplay on my new character in place of my old, so same everything really just a different class. The actual progression of the dark side wouldnt be anything to do with my IC roleplay, I just want it for cosmetic reasons rather than hard core rp so to speak. Out of interest how much points do displomacy missions give? Ive just unlocked grade 3 on my main, didnt realise it went up to grade 8. Thanks for the quick reply!
Erevan_Kindelar Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 BT and Esseles are both soloable. When you are at 60, you have the option of 3 versions of both of them - Tactical, where all players are downgraded to level 10 stats; Solo, which is the same as the Tactical version but you get a tank and heal pet droid to run through the mission with; and Hard Mode, where you get boosted up to level 65 stats and have a significantly harder challenge. (Hard Mode is only available from level 50 though, for anyone at 49 or lower wondering why they don't have that option). Solo and Tactical modes of BT and Esseles can, in my experience, be soloed by any class, although they will go quicker if your companion has a reasonable Influence level (10+), and they become trivial to solo if your companion has 20+ Influence. They are also the cheapest way, and reasonably quick, to increase influence on your STARTER companion (only the starter companion gains Influence in them afaik, see below for the list of companions which gain affection in BT and Esseles) because you can gain 5500-7000 Influence per run depending on your conversation choices in the FP and whether you have the Legacy of Persuasion perks unlocked in your Legacy. For lower level players, running BT/Esseles is also a very fast way to gain adventuring levels, and even at 60+ you should still gain 25-40% of a level by running through the Tactical FP. They can get a bit boring after running them a few times, but I usually put on some loud music and run through them in about 20-30 minutes per run. Oh, and the Starter Companions: Trooper: Aric Jorgan; Smuggler: Corso Riggs; Jedi Knight: T7-01; Jedi Consular: Qyzen Fess; Bounty Hunter: Mako; Imperial Agent: Kaliyo Djannis; Sith Warrior: Vette; Sith Inquisitor: Khem Val.
DocDAM Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) Yes, you can solo Esseles/BT. You have the choice of Solo mode or Tactical. You can easily solo the Tactical version (which gives much better loot and common crystal drops). Esseles (Pub) takes longer than Black Talon (Imp). Both are slower than previous due to the new bolster/level-sync. Figure ~25 minutes a run? Diplomacy LS/DS pts vary with level. Something like single digits to 10's for grades 1-3. I had a SW at about 7500 and it took me 2-4 hrs, if I recall, using a combo of BT and Diplomacy missions to get to 10K. This was all pre-KOTFE, so might have changed. Oh, run BT/Esseles with your 1st companion. Gives MASSIVE Influence pts. Use the following guide for "proper" Influence farming: https://psynister.wordpress.com/2012/06/08/affection-farming-black-talon/ BUT... You know that you can't do class story, Shadow of Revan and companion quests with your insta-60 toon, right? If you are so into roleplay, why even use the insta-60? I'm not a fan of the insta-60. Haven't used mine. For a new player, I strongly advise starting at L1. But as a returning player, well, your call of course. [Edit: ninja'd by Erevan ] Edited December 2, 2015 by DocDAM
SithVincere Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) Snip Snip Thank you both for quick replies it's much appreciated. I'll have to look into slowly working on it while doing my other character bits too. I see level syncing was brought in with the recent update so i will get synced down now, ah well it shouldn't be too bad! I used my 60 token on a juggernaut because I already did the warrior story and didn't think I'd remember it but playing through the early stages I remember everything so it is a bit tedious- I'm stretched for time too due to moving and not having room for a pc so enjoying what I can over Christmas ha. Thanks again! Edited December 2, 2015 by SithVincere
Cakellene Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Doesn't tactical bolster you to 65 like it does for every other FP?
Erevan_Kindelar Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Doesn't tactical bolster you to 65 like it does for every other FP? Not for BT and Esseles, they put you to level 10. HM bolster you to 65 though. I am guessing it was easier to do it that way than re-tune the entire flashpoint for a different challenge level to the HM version.
