Hanzar Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 So I am forced to do Star Fortress to upon up more with the Alliance. Thought it would be a fun challenge. So I picked my highest Level compaion and went in. It was a bit of a struggle but fun. Until I got in to an ambush. That is where I notice something. One of the adds the Knights 6-7 shots me. And the fight after the ambush is beyond hard. I tried for about 1-2 hours. But could not get past the second Junctions since the boss would spawn these two golden robots whom themselves spawn 5 robots. I like a challenge. But something feels wrong. It feels more like this would be a Flashpoint then an Heroic. I given up on star fortress right now since I can't find enjyoment in them and sadly this means I will miss out of a fair bit of story and characters. Anyone else feel like this? That Bioware might have overtuned star fortress. (I read the sticky about companions and star fortress so if this is after this patch. I would fear to see how it was before the nerf of companions.)

Hanzar Posted November 29, 2015 Author Posted November 29, 2015 Kill the golden robots and loot them, then use the item you looted to drain the exarchs power. Got one gold down. But then the room was full with mobs and they killed my companion (I cced the other gold one)
Makillda Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 You left out quite a bit of info, like your class, spec, gear level, companion level and role, etc. They are not meant to be easily soloed until you have built up your gear, learned your toon's capabilities and built up your influence level. Perhaps people could offer some advice if you were to fill in the blanks from above.
Lord_Sleepy Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Got one gold down. But then the room was full with mobs and they killed my companion (I cced the other gold one) Did you get the packages that they left for you? You have to have at least 10 levels of influence with each of the 4 alliance commanders then you get four packages left on the star fortress to use.
Kiesu Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Try CCing one (with all cc abilities you have in chain) while killing the room from weakest to strongest. I had zero issues with that room like that, and I don't even have long CC on sentinel. Attempting to facetank everything is bad for your health. Defensives are also a thing. Star Fortress "funness" level has stayed the same for me. Kinda grinded the fun out of them anyway first week running all achieves.

Yorioko Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Got one gold down. But then the room was full with mobs and they killed my companion (I cced the other gold one) If you have some ( I prefer all ) the specialists at Level 10, then they plce acessable crates in the SFs , thses are Things like Group stuns, defensive Tower, speed boots etc........ Also once you enter ( jumping Down first time) there is a Think, highlighted in blue, this offers buffs as well. Try this. I have so far failed soloing the heoic modes of the SFs but this mostly due to Connections and my own "mistakes"

Yeah 5 of them went to unlock the Star Fortress.

There is a bit of advice regarding the Sage/Sorc running these instances in the thread.
Lord_Sleepy Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 You mean the Purple packages? Yeah 5 of them went to unlock the Star Fortress. You need to turn a bunch in to the 4 different specialist to raise their level to 10 each, then look all over as you work through the star fortress to find the packages there, like a turret you can deploy, med probe, a grenade that can make the weapons of the enemy in the area not work for 6 seconds, all on a temporary ability bar.

So basically grind for a few days(2 weeks) and try again?

That Bioware might have overtuned star fortress. (I read the sticky about companions and star fortress so if this is after this patch. I would fear to see how it was before the nerf of companions.) It echoes a lot what I feel. It had been said the Fortress are neither heroic nor flashpoint, quess they'll work on them. For now, I don't find them enjoyable, solos give useless loot and regular are too hard to finish, at least with my smuggler. Furthermore, there are little annoying bugs. The partner doesn't follow after a jump and the characters ends it the wrong way facing the edge. I can't say it's impossible, I finished once out of ~10 tries, but the last time I tried, I knew the heart was not there, only finding 1 out of 4 buffs and unable to pass the 2nd room. I'll just ignore them before I consider them as bad as the colicoid flashpoint
Cicgnar Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 The Heroic 2+ are Heroic. You should get a group. To solo it, you'd need better gear, influence and alliance level. Quickest way out of heroics for the followers? Grab a friend.

Also Bioware agrees that they are looking in to the matter to rename it.

If you want to solo those heroics on actual level you need a buddy or skill, not really comparable to lv60 doing lv30 content. Edited November 30, 2015 by Kiesu

If you want to solo those heroics on actual level you need a buddy or skill, not really comparable to lv60 doing lv30 content. I did heroics now and again when I was near them when leveling. So I did them on same level. But now I am grnding Purple Crates to get Rank 10 with people. Plus Bioware is looking in to Star Fortress to see what they can do. "Star Fortresses Which leads me to Star Fortresses. We are going to treat Star Fortresses as a different topic from Companion balance. The initial difficulty level for Star Fortresses are clearly story content, meaning, we expect all of you to take part and enjoy them while earning new Contacts. This hasn’t changed. The difficult mode for Star Fortresses, though, we feel is a challenge that players should aspire to achieve, and not something players should easily do without gearing up their character and increasing their Companion’s Influence level. We obviously set an expectation Heroic Star Fortresses were going to be similar to [Heroic 2] content, but that was not our intention. As a result, we are going to change the “Heroic” nomenclature for Star Fortresses to something different. We’ll let you know what we decide the new name will be soon. In addition, this will allow us to balance Star Fortresses independently of Companion power, but still make it challenging without making it impossible for many players." "Heroic Star Fortresses will get a new moniker to denote that it’s a different type of challenge. And we will balance Star Fortresses independently of both Companion power and [Heroic 2]s to ensure they are tuned appropriately." http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=856224

Soloing Heroic 2+s was pretty doable while on level before 4.0 and are pretty easy now, and I'm not even that good of a player. The Exarch battle and the ambush preceeding it are on a whole other level. @OP I wrote some advice in the thread someone else linked, but from what you said you definitely need better gear if you're gonna solo it and need to raise your companion influence quite a bit. Easiest way for the latter is probably to buy gifts from the vendor on fleet till it only gives a little influence and then switch to higher level ones. The stuff you get for level 10 alliances helps a lot too (ilu Aygo your turret is awesome) and use your heroic moment as much as you can (it's pretty helpful burning down the knights during the ambush and in my experience makes for a good opener during the Exarch fight, provided you have enough abilities for it unlocked).
chosonman Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I completed the entire series on my sniper including all the bonuses without dying once. It's been a breeze honesty dont know what ppl are complaining about.

Yeah, got Alliances to rank 4-5 today. So should onyl take 2 weeksish. To get them higher. Think the main issue is the influence should maybe be in 20+ for me. Then it mgiht be doable. And the person that said he did it without dieing one time. Have I told you I caught a fish as big as a hutt one time?

And the fight after the ambush is beyond hard. Was it a single saber scumbag? They hit harder than anything else in there, including Paladins unless they are also single saber (in which case make peace with your deity of choice). It's ridiculous, with dual and dual-bladed Knights you don't even need to interrupt them. With single saber scumbags, there is nothing to interrupt. They just cut you down. Now that companions aren't useless they can heal some of the damage but you may need to bubble and/or self heal once in a while. Pop Heroic moment if it's not going your way. But whatever you do try not to have anything other than the Knight after you and do not let the scumbag wail on your companion or they will kill them. It is doable however. Someone linked the thread about the TK sage (your equivalent) having trouble with it. I'll paste the relevant bits of my advice from there: Ambush: I cheese it. Run into the room and run out immediately once the exarch starts talking. When the mobs show, peek out from the doorway and lift one of the knights (prioritize single saber). The door will shut. Run back down the corridor and the combat resets. Wait for the cooldown and repeat. The door won't shut this time and the non-cc'd guys will come after you. Have your comp on passive so they don't run out and draw them into the corridor so you can freely use AOE. Activate comp and kill them. Chances are the lifted knight will wake up before you're ready for him. Lift him again and run back into the room killing what's left. Then kill the last knight. Reactor rooms- Push one of the elites as far back from the far door (where adds come from) as you can and lift him. Wail on the other one. When adds come, AOE them. Get out of AOE circles. For the last room, pop Heroic moment if needed. Once one elite is down you can lift the far side droid (i.e. not the one by the add door) while you take care of the other elite. That way they won't keep spawning. You can also leave one weak add alive so no more will show up until you're ready for them. An addition/clarification to the Reactor rooms. The elites in the first room, flank the Exarch, then they're by the door in the second room, and back to flanking in the third. For the first and third room you run in and push the one to the right (furthest from the far door where adds come) into the opposite corner and CC. For the second room, You push the one closest to the exarch away from the door and CC. When adds come you want to position yourself with your back to him and push the adds away (into the droid corner), allowing you to AOE them without waking him up (be thankful Overload isn't 360 degrees). Finally, if you have spare solar shields (and you should the adds drop them like crazy) feel free to pop some during the room encounters. The exarch AOE may be solar based, thus the shields may protect you. Edited November 30, 2015 by CrutchCricket

Have I told you I caught a fish as big as a hutt one time? I did it without all alliance abilities and Lana at rank 33 while in mostly 208 and I think 2 216 pieces (and one 172 relic), but that was during 4.0 so you might not need to get your comp rank up as much (and like I said, not the greatest player anyway 8'D). It definitely should be doable with the alliance abilities, though. (Also lol, every thread that has people saying they have trouble with soloing the Heroic Star Fortress has people coming in talking about how awesome they are but never deigning to offer advice to those that are struggling why am I not surprised...)
