DarkAngelGuyver Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 So recently tried to introduce a friend to SWTOR. I hadn't played in a while and hadn't realized how horribly the paywall had become for free players (seriously guys, this is shameful). Still, I wanted to show them the game proper and decided to see if I could hook them up with some sub time as they can't really afford it and the lack of being able to group chat or trade items is just silly. Unfortunately being in Canada, Amazon doesn't allow me to simply buy a time card and e-mail them the code. Likewise I cannot buy the downloadable code off Amazon. I'd found the suggestion to buy game time on Origin as that e-mailed a code, however that post was from 2012 and the option is no longer there. Are there ANY options that don't rely on my tracking down a physical card? That is, buy time get a code e-mailed that I can easily copy and paste to them? Seriously guys, trying to give you money here but it's like you just don't wanna take it. :/

DarkAngelGuyver Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 From how Origin worded it the Deluxe Pack immediately attaches to your account and Origin doesn't allow gift transactions. Does the pack provide subscription items, or?
Callaron Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 From how Origin worded it the Deluxe Pack immediately attaches to your account and Origin doesn't allow gift transactions. Does the pack provide subscription items, or? I imagine it'll give you keys to apply, but I'm not sure. You can always buy a similar pack from Amazon or similar sources though, where you'll be certain it will give you keys to give to your friend.
DarkAngelGuyver Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Only place I could find a digital key was Amazon.com and they don't allow Canadian customers. Amazon.ca only has the physical key. I'd go with the origin one I'm just leery of plunking down 30 bucks on a "maybe" :/

And it's even from Canada as well.
AshlaBoga Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I hadn't played in a while and hadn't realized how horribly the paywall had become for free players (seriously guys, this is shameful). Actually, F2P players have more features than they did in 2012. It's just that subs have gotten much more, so it seems less.
Zanriel Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 What I did is I bought a pre-paid game time code from Amazon and then gave my nephew the code, which they could then enter on swtor.com. I've done that a couple times with no issues. http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Republic-Prepaid-Subscription/dp/B00HWYDM3O

JeKoCZ Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 There are 3rd party sites where you can buy virtual game-time cards without having them "bound" to any account so you can just buy the code, pass it to a friend and have him redeem it. The one I personally use for example is this as it's a good deal for 60 days (Normally I'd pay €13 for 30 days using either Origin or SWTOR official sites, but here I pay €21 for 60 days), but it only works here in Europe. http://www.instant-gaming.com/en/44-buy-key-origin-star-wars-the-old-republic-60-days/?igr=702371 Anyway sites such as g2a should have similar offers. I bought the 30 days code from Origin twice in the past because SWTOR's billing system is dumb and most of the times it doesn't work refusing the payment and the code I got was not "bound" to me aswell. I just needed to login to Origin, complete the payment, get the code and redeem it. And I can assure you it works on different accounts because the 2nd time I did it, it redeemed it for a sort of backup account I had got from a friend who stopped playing months ago and I didn't encounter any problem.
Macarrin Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) Some stores sell physical time cards even in Canada. I used to buy 60 day cards from EB Games, maybe there's one of those or something similar near your location. Edited November 28, 2015 by Macarrin
Soldekai Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 here you go https://www.g2a.com/star-wars-the-old-republic-prepaid.html?reflink=swtor_gametime_vulkk_reff https://www.origin.com/en-be/store/buy/star-wars-the-old-republic/pc-download/bundle/deluxe-pack Holy hell, $66.79 for sixty days? That is high way robbery. It's over x2 the normal cost.
Elessara Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 I realise this is a 5 year old thread but .... yeah don't buy it from g2a.com. Amazon's prices are much better. 60 day time cards are $30 there.
