Well unless you never plan to play Arsenal you can more than get away by having only one set of gear. I've said it in other threads, unless you do stupid gearing, min-maxing won't make or break you.

Anyhow, since IO is not a burst spec it's strength comes from higher sustained dps, for which you need alacrity.

I'll just say right now that IO is no different to Arsenal for (potential) sustained damage.

3.0 it was true that IO was superior, 4.0 no.

Whatever you take it for scratch burst and sustained damage off the list because it excels in neither.

I saw a couple of threads for the Arsenal/Gunnery, and was wondering if the goal will be the same for the second DPS spec, or if I need higher Alacrity?

TY!

I want to lvl another commando for dps, and take it to 65 with IO/AS just to mess around on (I like having alts of the same class but different subclasses.)

I changed from IO to Gunnery on my commando around lvl 50ish, and never felt like changing back. I was surprised how much mobility it has, and, it's not as bad as it used to be concerning "grav spamming".

I used to hate how reliant the gunnery spec used to be on standing in one spot and spamming grav round! The build is very mobile and does nice sustained damage with some decent burst! I enjoy it a lot tbh.

As for gearing IO I wouldn't know. You'd think gearing with crit being the primary focus or power would be best seeing how both seem to maximize overall damage for the dps classes now, but I could see how in theory alacrity might be useful as it would allow the dots to roll faster and for any hardcasting abilities having speed on those is also helpful.

My point of responding was to mention how gunnery is really fun, and you might enjoy it a lot. if you have not tried it, I would suggest that. :p

I am not really interested in learning another spec, and, yes, yes, I know IO is not exactly about giving you the most pluses. It's too much of a bother with resetting the bars and relearning the rotations, etc. I just want to play the chars I already have and comfy with, and don't want the augments go to waste. So, just max out crit/ala then, and don't bother with power since burst is not going to be there anyway? Edited by DomiSotto

No spec gears for power since 4.0. I suggest getting 5% accuracy and then maybe 3/7 split alacrity/crit.

And if you want to get as much out of IO as you can then DoT spread a lot :)

Oh, what's done is done. By the look of it it is one of those you lose here, win there things, and from the descriptions of what each thing does for the AP/Tacticas, I liked the idea of power better. I am not sure if Alacrity will have any discernible impact on the IO/AS, or if it's just loading crit to 40% and the rest in power kind of a deal.

I wouldn't mess with alacrity on the dps commando tbh. I am running 41% crit, 72% crit mult, 4% alacrity and 105% accuracy and it seems to be great. The oddest thing is, I swear it seems when I had 110% accuracy I was missing more than I do now with LESS accuracy.
