Hey, I'm a new player to The old republic and i wanted to ask something. For the companions, do i need to max their influence to complete a romance them. I am starting a jedi knight and wanted to make sure i romanced kira but i noticed the influence meter is 250k which i thought would be hard to achieve, do i have to max that to complete a romance with her? I know you can get gifts from crew skills but i thought those crew skills would be better served for crafting like synthweaving or something.

Nope, you do not have to get them to rank 50, that would be huge! I'm not sure if there is currently a influence requirement but if there is it is at or under 10K (rank 10). That is easily achievable with rank 1 gifts bought off of the fleet, roughly 70 of them if you have the buff to affection from gifts (which you should always get for all characters).

oh ok so you can complete the romance at rank 10 and beyond that improving influence makes the companion stronger? I was worried that I couldnt get companion quests or dialogue without improving influence to ridiculous amounts. So is rank 10 good enough for dialogue and completing quests for the companion?

I just completed the Sith Inquisitor class story and was able to get the romance conversation chain to the end (you know you've done all the conversations when the associated achievement unlocks in "Imperial/Republic Unlocks") around influence rank 10 or so. I suppose this is because the conversations aren't tied to the level of influence as strongly as they were when influence was still called "affection", and now it also depends how far in the story you are as well.

Yes, Influence Rank 10 will be more than adequate for completing the romance with Kira. The only caveat is that the companion conversations are not only dependent on their influence level - you also have to have progressed a certain distance through your class storyline for conversations with companions to become available. So if you go for the companion gifts to get Kira up to Influence rank 10 after leaving Coruscant, don't be too surprised if she only offers the first 1 or 2 conversations with no hint of romance :)

Ignore what they all say. "Influence" has no effect on progressing the companion story. NONE.

Your progress in the companion story is determined only by your progress in your character's class story, and nothing else. (Your exact path through the story is determined by your choices, of course, but the progression, i.e. at what point the next conversation is unlocked, is determined solely by class story progression.)

Ah...well that's good to know I guess. I was under impression (possibly because of some old guides on the subject) that it would somehow be related to your relationship level with the companion. But that's actually a good thing that it's not because this way I don't necessarily have to venture around with companions that I don't like.

Prior to the release of 4.0, it was based on the companion's "Affection" score, which was replaced by "Influence".
