Sith Sorcerer vs Gunslinger

Sages/Sorcs are a lot more mobile than Gunslingers/Snipers; they have a lot fewer defensive cooldowns, but are great at kiting and have a lot of self-heals. They can also off-heal in a pinch, or respec healer as well. Gunslingers have a ton of defensive cooldowns, but none of them are particularly amazing on their own. Both offer a lot of utility to a group in different ways (Sages have Rescue, Force Empowerment; Gunslingers have Scrambling Field, Diversion, Flourish Shot). Both also have sustained/AoE damage specs (Balance for Sages; Dirty Fighting and Saboteur for Gunslingers) and single-target burst specs (Telekinetics for Sages; Marksman for Gunslingers), though Marksman can put up solid overall numbers as well. If you're planning to do ranked, Sage is definitely a better bet, but in 8v8 warzones both can perform really well. Personally, I'd recommend going Sage if you want sustained damage and Gunslinger if you prefer burst, as Balance and Marksman are two of the best warzone specs right now. Sorcs: Better Mobility, Better Survivalbility (As madness), Better self-healing, better AOE pressure, better DOT spread, Better Kiting, Doesn't need to be in LoS to deal damage.

 

Snipers: (Filthy MM spec, since that's really only what people play anymore): Better Burst.

 

So If you want to die a lot, but have almost as much burst as an AP powertech, but with weaker defensive's, and no ability to kite or stop people from LoSing, go sniper. (This also works if you have team support, which is rare in random games)

 

If you want to roll your head on your keyboard, and still get 3K DPS, play Madness.

Sorc is a lot more self sustaining. Snipers damage capability with a tank and healer to support them is really good though. Without that support, well; you can be dangerous but will fold if people stay on,you.
