uppen Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Hi, I put this in the suggestions forum, but thought I would post it here too. I'm not sure if it has been mentioned before. For some reason many people find it difficult to call for help in warzones. It would be nice to have several skills on the temporary hotbar that people could just click on, rather than having to type into chat. Skills such as "West 1" , "West 2" , "East 3+" , "Pylon 3+" etc, with different skill sets for different WZ's. When you press the relevant skill it appears in chat, perhaps in its own unique colour. With safeguards so it can't be spammed more than 2-3 times. Thanks. Edited November 18, 2015 by uppen
cmlfree Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Wouldn't it be nice, or better yet be allowed to macro "/ops 2 snow" or what ever? But BW seems to think this would give an unfair advantage so they said no. Just more proof they really don't understand their own game.
Devorion Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Actually great idea It can be simple temporary buttons that should show something like Mid inc (1-2) Mid heavy (4-5) West in (1-2) West heavy (4-5) East inc (1-2) East heavy (4-5) For Voidstar Left inc (1-2) Left heavy (4-5) Right inc (1-2) Right heavy (4-5) That is all that is needed to call for help in any warzone:cool: Edited November 18, 2015 by Devorion

It's subjective depending on where the player is, when you say left or right. Is using east and west really that hard? East or west is always east or west, no matter where the player is at or what direction they are facing.

I used to think the same thing, "everyone knows east and west - it's on every map for goodness sakes!" Then I realized that probably "all these kids" now days have never used a map in their lives! Their phone app or whatever just tells them directions as they drive, and what do those things say? "Turn left now!" So, no, I now think they do not know east from west.
uppen Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Yeah, East/West are far better than Left/Right, as using East/West is unambiguous. Also in Voidstar it says "The East bomb has ...." when a plant occurs, not " The Left bomb ... ". Maybe Snow/Grass for Alderan is ok, but I still prefer East/West. Edited November 18, 2015 by uppen
Glower Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Just one smart button. 1-2-3 clicks - 1-2-3 incs on nearest node. Well "smart"... "Smart" and Bioware UI coders (buff bars, buff in ops frames, blue icons for players in 4.0)... Not with current dev team.

Is using east and west really that hard? East or west is always east or west, no matter where the player is at or what direction they are facing. Left/right is always based with your back, to your own spawn, so when attacking in voidstar right=east, and when defending right=west. That being said, no one knows their own left from their right, and like you I prefer east/west. But all that really doesn't matter because all that will happen is your team will go full retard, and either all defend one side, or try and camp their spawn, while the other team caps instantly. Then on attack everyone will just follow the stealther around making sure to **** up any sap cap as they make sure to bring half of the other team with them. So best bet is in voidstar is to just click the button "leave warzones", you'll find your enjoyment in pvp is muck better

Good idea, I think it could help pvp alteast a little. in relation to the quote, practically everyone knows what the cardinal directions are. You dont need to be a cartographer to use a map. Use east and west and 95% of the people in game will know which way to go, or if you use left and right and most people will still be able to figure it out. Voidstar makes me laugh though. If its more than 2 you dont need to call out how many, just say inc, need help. theirs only two sides in a map, if they arent on one side, they are on the other, I can see someone not recognizing that theirs only 6 attackers,, but if you have to let your team know that the other half of the enemy is on your side, your team has bigger issues than team mates who are unable to communicate inc.

I get so annoyed when people say Left/Right People dont know direction, the minimap itself is a compass.
PaulusMaulus Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Off topic. I would love the ability to save my button layout so that if I want to switch from DPS Sage to Healing Sage I can just load in my saved Healer button layout without having to do it from scratch every time! That Bioware has not implemented this very basic fucnction is beyond me.

Actually they did add it with 4.0 with the import/export key bindings, I'm too lazy to have multiple layouts, but you can if you want. It has been a godsend for me since I'm addicted to making way too many toons
AlrikFassbauer Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Wouldn't it be nice, or better yet be allowed to macro "/ops 2 snow" or what ever? The casual gamers don't have macros. Hence a far simpler solution must be found. Temporary bars for incs is the best idea I ever read here. Excellent, imho.
Master-Nala Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 This suggestion was made a long time ago, but like someone said re macros, Bioware thought it would give an unfair advantage if someone could call incoming with one button press. Why they have no problem with VOIP programs was not answered.
Banderal Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 in relation to the quote, practically everyone knows what the cardinal directions are. You dont need to be a cartographer to use a map. Use east and west and 95% of the people in game will know which way to go, or if you use left and right and most people will still be able to figure it out. All true. My comment was meant mostly as a joke, playing off the people that insist VS has to be left/right. And I have actually seen people (more than one! - or maybe it was the same person on multiple characters?) type, in a VS game, that you have to use left/right, because east/west change if you are attacking or defending. And on topic... I dunno. I flub keys enough that I would probably end up calling the wrong inc if I had them keybound. I'd probably stick with typing. But still, I think this suggestion would be a lot more useful to more people than the things they did for 4.0 about moving the pass-huttball button, and making the icons blue. So +1!
Scinald Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 @OP good suggestion. Map markers would be nice too to ping your location. @Voidstar Direction People: I have found left/right generally more useful in Voidstar because if you are calling for help on a side most of the people you want to help there are probably coming out of spawn and you want to make it as clear as possible which way they should turn. The people in the field can figure it out rather easily b/c either they are on the side that needs help or on the side that can give help and which is which is usually self evident.
Shardas Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) [edit] Now that I think about it, why not make it a voiced call while we are at it? I mean, if you loose a node or the bomb is planted, you get an audio signal too. Why not have the player character announce the incoming via communicator? Press a button -> team hears communicator crackling -> player character says their sentence. Seems simple. Not many new lines of dialogue would have to be recorded, so that would not be a problem. Also the game already recognises whether or not you are close to a node - if you aren't you don't get defender medals. The same check can be used by the game to decide whether or not it should activate the temporary hotbar with the defender voice announcements. Since most people play with sound turned on, such an announcement would be more noticeable too. Plus it would be really cool, so defending might become more popular among more players. [/edit] Like some posters before me I think that this is a great idea, however even without hotkey or macros there is a nice way to quickly call incoming. All it needs is a tiny bit of preparation. First of all, know who will defend. If this is agreed upon while still in the spawn zone before the start, even better. Next, look at your map. Where is the place you will defend? Left on the map is west, right is east. Now as soon as you know that you will be the defender, activate your chat (ops channel is automatically set as soon as you enter a warzone), and type your incoming message. I usually type something like this: "Inc. WEST (left on map)! " Yes, with that blank space at the end. Now the interesting part: Do NOT hit enter! Instead klick your inventory icon to bring up the inventory, then close it right away. Walk around. You'll notice, that your inc. message is still in your chat, but the chat is deactivated, so you can move and use your hotkeys as usual. Now if you have incoming, just hit enter twice - bam, you called incoming in less than a second and are ready to engage. If you see it early, just hit enter, type the number of enemies coming your way and then hit enter for an even more precise call. I know it's kind of work-around-y but you can call incoming precisely and quickly that way. No time wasted being unable to move due to active chat, no confusion among your team about the direction they have to go in order to help you. Bonus: After your first call, activate your chat and press the up arrow key to bring up your last chat message. Hit END key to jump to the end of your call, delete the number, click your inventory icon twice. There, all set up for the next incoming. Edited November 19, 2015 by Shardas addition of idea
