Why no new maps?

Whats wrong with PvP in this game, between 2012-14 they added just a few arenas and between 2014-2015 they added what, 1 huttball map? Can't get why it is so hard to add much more maps, it looks much easier that adding a new flashpoint, no story, no dialogs, just a map. I know this game is focused on PvE but there are even PvP servers for some purpose. :rak_02:

Arenas btw are rare to see on unranked while nearly noone plays ranked, so same maps for years.

I cant get it.

They are prototyping new maps for years... Prototyping yeah! I want this job! :p

Just give the access to the editor and current assets, so i can make new map every month or so! For free! :rak_04:

Imagine a world where we could play custom pvp maps. Oh man. :)

My uneducated guess is it is based on their prediction of the revenue generation vs investment. The player vs player content seems to have not been very successful with the player base.

I am sure tons of resources went into GSF module, which is the least played part of the game ( I am certain that was in red). OWP areas are not played. They try to pump life into ranked, but it is dwindling. PvP servers have low population, and all but made their new homes on the PvE servers now.

So, they invest into what brings easy payback in terms of customer loyalty. And they do it with cutting the cost on the content (they produce one story instead of 8 with reduced coding because there are so many constraints now). They did not invest in the new content outside the singleplayer story. What they did instead is revamped the game structure.

Chances are, atm, the end-game content is in direct competition for resources to produce the end-game, including the PvP mini-maps and scripting. I am certain that behind each warzone there lies much more than just graphics for a map.

It's an interesting question, for sure, and the one I would wish Bio spoke to, but tbh, I am sure it's money talking. PvP just doesn't draw many people because it has no controls at all in terms of adapting the opposition to the players' level. Average players lose a lot, lifting one's skill ceiling is very hard in this game and that does not make for a cool mini-game everyone just dies to try out.

I think most of us want an instant gratification & wish fulfillment out of a fantasy game and feeling in control, and PvP is the last place to go searching for it.

Which is why we should support player created maps. :)

PvP just doesn't draw many people because

- no cross server or maybe cross-faction (KOTFE Odessen anyone? Nah let's forget about it!)

- no ranked 8*8

- no new maps for years or half-assed maps like Quesh Huttball (fix for 1 to 3 level pass? forget it!) or poor Arenas.

- almost zero balance tweaks (we need 3.0 skill/utility system, so we can balance things more often! © Bioware )

- FOTMonth to FOTYear.... FOT2Y by now /lol

- poor fps in warzones (for some players)

Sure. Not surprising after all this. :D

Pretty much entirely this.

Their first priority is direct revenue generation - so cartel market.

After that, they look at how the majority of people who buy cartel coins spend their time, and develop more of that.

PvP is way down the list. I'd hazard a guess that the average PvPer (someone that spends MOST of their game time PvPing) is probably not a big cash shop spender. They don't want subs to leave - but they also don't really want to invest any money keeping people who aren't spending big bucks happy if they can avoid it. Heck, that's why the sub 50 loot tables haven't changed since launch, even as more and more stuff gets added to the CM.

When game allows the player created content it opens up a new can of worms. While Bio's content can be criticized, the QA/QC maybe more challenging than even most talented modders can create. I sort of like that I can't mess with this game.

It's a bit chicken and an egg thing, is not it? No population, no new toys. No new toys, no population. To be honest, in your list the only thing that is strongly appealing to me is the cross-server/cross-faction stuff (which prob would destroy fps), but I think it might be they have numbers in hand to show that the investment ain't going to pay off. So, they went the easy way, and gave the cheap transfers to focus the population.

I get why people want new maps but has anyone else noticed that every time they release a new map it immediately becomes the "worst map ever?" Even assuming it isn't just a bunch of whiners moaning that they actually have to learn how the new map works (and, to a certain extent, it is) why would we want them to rush out maps? Especially when it's possible that they've run out of good ideas?

The last time they added a map, they gave us Quesh huttball. I have a feeling if they try to add another, it will somehow be worse (and more bugged). In this sense, and knowing you can't blacklist any map, I hope they don't create another map.

Good ideas yeah. Can they just use good old multiplayer modes like CTF, king of the hill etc? :o

Or just rearrange objective points from current modes on new maps?

but has anyone else noticed that every time they release a new map it immediately becomes the "worst map ever?"

For me it's Huttball > Voidstar = Civil War = Novare Coast >>> Hypergates >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Quesh Huttball >>>>>>>>>>>> dark abyss :p >>>>>>>>>>>> Arenas.

Yeah, a downward spiral.

"Every time" ? Really? Every year or two u mean? And ofc Quesh huttball map is bad atleast of framerates and at most because huttball itself is hard to balance and its more team-dependent. Hypergate on the other side is good map it was the last big map 2 or 3 years ago.

And again, I know they are focusing on PVE but it's not that hard to add more maps with same gameplay but which at least look different.

So...you think we're all whiners and Bioware is out of PvP map ideas huh? LOL! If they're that thin skinned AND that completely incompetent, they need to just shut the game down.

Well, considering that the only new map we had in the last 2 years is a re-skin of an old map, made less interesting with a fatal design flaw (your goal and the opposition goal are not the 2 furthest points in the map), most of the complaining on lack of new maps is valid.

As for PvP is not enough money generating tool, this is just a speculation. Even BW cant determine which people sub only for PvP (or PvP is the primary reason they sub), and of these how much buy additional CC. Not to mention projecting how much subs would increase or decrease if more PvP content is added or lack of thereof.

IMO, BW is spending the least amount of money possible on all content, and testing how much subs would fall and determine if they can keep milking fanboys with minimum spending.

All the maps are good maps besides queshball and sometimes reg. huttball. queshball is just too damn broken and the things that can make reg huttball an annoyance are amplified x100 on queshball. Quad-kill knockbacks anyone?
