AnisaBadgett Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I have resisted using crystals (aka comms) to buy new relics because there seems to still be some discussion about how they activate. I can vaguely remember the days when you had to keep them in a toolbar and click them yourself. But then that changed and all was good and lovely with the universe. I finally got to the place in crafting where I could make pretty little 186s for all my toons and a few friends. But as I was literally getting ready to click my mouse and buy ones on Odessen, several of my guildies said NOOOOOOO because they no longer self-activate. I can't seem to find any definitive ruling on this. But since I've gotten yet another "about to have too many crystal" warnings, I would be more than happy to spend 400 of them on relics, but only if they self activate.

The way relics work now, they self-activate when you use certain abilities, but not every time. You have to look at the relic itself to see how to activate it, but it will activate with a 30% chance if you do a certain action.
iacon Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Not all the relics are available at the crystal vendor that I've seen. The ones that proc are gained through doing operations or buying off the GTN from crafters that have gotten them from operations and reverse engineered.

I know it was always a percentage chance based on specific abilities, if (for a dps or healer) you were hitting or healing. So what you're saying is that relics in 4.0 are what they were in late 3.0?
JSitruc Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 relics are the same as they have always been. There are some that are click to use and some that are used during proc.. However, the click to use can be purchased with crystals, where as the proc ones are all purchased with the token drop from ops.

Some are proc relics, others are on use. I believe all the PvP relics are still proc relics. Those are the ones I'm sticking with until I can get the raid drops, because the only other relics I like are ones I can craft but they are 186 rating. Look at the tooltip and it should tell you. If it says On Use:, then you need to put it on your hot bar and key bind it to activate it. A lot of the low level relics will be on use if you wish to see how the text differs.

Glowing and radiant relics are clicky, WZ and advanced WZ relics are proc'ing (as are, I guess, Ops relics, but I don't do Ops). The current Artifice trainer schematic relics are all proc'ing (best rating, got via REing, is 186), but they did not take away the old schematics for the clickies (named "Ruusan Relic of <Fill in the Blank>, best rating, 186). Why would anyone make or want to use old 150- or 154-rated relics? There is no reason to use any relic with less than a 186 rating (unless lack of Artifact Authorization limits the character to blues, and I think 178 crafted is the best blue relic).

I never mentioned anything about using the old 2.0 or 1.0 relics, where are you even getting that idea? I specifically said I am using PvP relics because they still proc until I get the raid drop ones, and the only other ones I can get are ones I can craft (eg 186 relics). The PvP relics are an upgrade compared to the 186 relics.

Fun fact: If the old Ruusan can be crafted in 1 step using 16 units of material, the new Hiridu must be crafted in 2 steps and use 28 units of the same materials. It's cheaper and faster to build archived relics for the exact same results.
TX_Angel Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 If you have any PvP comms, just get the 204 or 208 PvP proc relics, they are almost as good as the token drops and much less trouble to get. By all means, if you get the token drops, use them, but otherwise, the PvP relics are fine.
steinarmikalsen Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 what i want to know is why DPS relics have endurance but TANK relics have Mastery??
branmakmuffin Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 what i want to know is why DPS relics have endurance but TANK relics have Mastery?? Same reason Tank augments have Power and others have Endurance.

AnisaBadgett Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 I don't PvP. I was talking about the craftable *Proc* (thanks, forgot the term) 186 relics vs. the *Use* or *Not-Proc* 208s you can buy with crystals. So the bottom line is the only PvE useful Procs available above 186 drop from Ops. In other words, I might never get them: All the ops my guild has done since 4.0, we've had to pug 1-2 slots, and the pugs have gotten all the unassembled gear except 1 pair of pants. The odds are never in our favor, I suppose.
