Breidr Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 It looks like I'm leaning towards these ACs and specs for my character. They seem to fit my criteria rotation wise and I the cover mechanic felt clunky, so it ruled out the other classes I had in mind. With that said, I know these classes are meant to mirror each other, but how do they differ, both game and story wise. On the surface I can see one thing. a Mercenary dual-wields while the commando has a BFG. Does this matter in the long run? Do the companions have differences? Just looking for a simple rundown of differences, if any are significant.

Just looking for a simple rundown of differences, if any are significant. The companion differences used to matter a lot more than they do now. A BH, I think, gets Mako earlier in Hutta than the Trooper gets Aric, but because the companions are now capable of taking on any of the roles, the fact that Mako used to be a healer and Aric a DPS is no longer important. (This difference affected the way you played on Coruscant versus Dromund Kaas, but it isn't relevant any more because you can set Aric to heal.) The difference between two pistols and one honking big gun and a generator is neither here nor there, at least in theory. On Ord Mantell, there are visual oddities for Commandos - the cinematics in the final mission were based on the character not having chosen an AC, and therefore still using a blaster rifle. It's weird seeing your character there in a rifle-holding pose with no rifle...
Corran Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 there are no major differences anymore. bh used to have an edge on resource management back in the day, but no so much. the key minor differences boil down to animations, armor aesthetics and gearing - commandos have an edge here as they share with no other class their weapons, whereas bh share drops with powertechs when it comes to weapons. this can make gearing either bh class a pain in raids/flash points.

SteveTheCynic Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 In chapter 3, there are actually *several* class story animations showing the Commando with a blaster pistol ! No, that's all the cinematics for troopers and agents (base class and both ACs of both), not just commando/chap3. Usually, you don't draw a weapon during cinematics, but even if you don't draw it, you'll see it there on your hip.
Frenesi Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Thre are some differences in how offhand damage works compared to single assault cannon. Back in the day, mercs were able to dish out slightly more DPS due to it. Not sure if it's till true
