Dimlos Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 (edited) Hello. I'm a player that came back after several years and I encountered fps drops. I saw on the forum that a lot of people are having this problem and I tried to monitor the game to see what was happening. Please keep in mind that I'm not an expert, I'm not a pro and I just want to help. Here is the graph while I'm in the character selection screen: http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447622312-spike.jpg It is stable but we can see really huge spikes. Here is another one, in game, in the imperial station: http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447622465-stable.jpg It gets really crazy, we can still see spikes. Now the exact same place but without the UI (ctrl + u) : http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447622519-noui.jpg It is a lot more stable than the previous one, but spikes are still there. The last one is with the minimum graphic settings and no ui (ctrl + u): http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447622606-minimum-no-ui.jpg In those screenshots, I'm not moving at all. The main problem to me are those huge spikes that happen even without the UI active. To me it looks like some loops are making those spikes. Sometimes my camera "teleports" and I think this is when you want to rotate the camera when a spike occurs. If the rotation speed of the camera is bound to the time between each frames, I think that lag spike will mess up the rotation. About the UI, I took a frame to see what was going on: http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447625020-screenshot1.jpg I had 30.5 fps there. It looks like the game is loading each and every skill icones one by one. I don't see any texture sheet for player skills in this frame. If I am not mistaken, this leads to a big number of draw calls: http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447625260-icones-1-by-1.jpg It takes around 88 500 µs to render. (which is twice the time it takes for the UI in World of Warcraft. It is an old frame I took and with modded UI, but I used it to compare and try to understand how it was working in wow and in swtor.) Also in that specific place I found that some fog particles in the back were taking a lot of performances, around 16% of the scene, here again a lot of drawcalls: http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447625494-smoke.jpg The game is loading weird geometry that seem to be related to that fog. Lots of polygons for really simple shape: http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2015/46/1447627526-weird-geometry.jpg I don't understand the purpose of these weird meshes. Those two things together take 29.8% of the scene. It's heavy, especially that fog since it is not a really important part of the frame to render. I have to try in pvp if I find myself having fps issues. It happened to me but I was not monitoring. I hope I did not say stupid things and that it'll help. If I said too much stupidity, feel free to tell me and I'll delete the thread if I have to. Edited November 15, 2015 by Dimlos
