Jarvus Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Why is it my 208 pvp gear will give more damage than 216 pve gear? I'm assuming that I rip mods to max both equivalently. Still, the 216 pve gear is lacking in power and the increase in mastery is not enough to make up for it. Plus, there is no set bonus on the 208 pve gear bought with crystals from vendors, so my question is why anyone would ever bother with 216 pve gear when comparably modded 208 pvp gear is actually more base damage AND has a set bonus.

You're comparing it to Vendor gear which is garbage to it. Now Token 216 is better and has a set bonus. /bread Edited November 14, 2015 by FerkWork

In 4.0, the new Basic (Common Crystal) gear has atrocious enhancements, poor mods, crappy ears and implants, no set bonuses of any type, and does not include relics, and no 208 modifications or relics are craftable. Yet PVP gear is now equal in rating to Common Crystal gear, has optimized enhancements and mods, better ears and implants, includes PVP set bonuses (some of which are good for PVE), as well as includes relics. Seems like Common Crystal gear could have had at least some mid-endurance enhancements and optimized mods, along with basic 208 level relics, either on the vendor or craftable, to compete with easily obtainable PVP gear. Of course to obtain 216 set bonus gear for PVE, which beats all the PVP gear by far, all one needs are some shells for every slot and a non-derpy group, as bolster pretty much makes gear for SM irrelevant. Vendor gear as a general rule does not give set bonuses (one recent exception was the 146 gear from the former level 50 Classic/then Basic vendors). If you want set bonuses, get WZ gear or run Ops. So, if you run Ops, you will get set bonus gear. If you do not run Ops, you do not need set bonus gear.
Jarvus Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 Oh. Thank you all. I was hoping to spend some glowing crystals to get pve-ish gear so I wouldn't be undergeared in ops. Even the glowing crystal bought 216 rated gear does suck. I guess I'll stick to pvp.
Master-Nala Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) Very true - but it is an interesting question given previously in 3.0, the best PVP gear was a lower rating with lower base stats than the Basic comms gear, as well as Basic rated optimized modifications and relics were craftable. The spread between top tier PvP gear and PvE gear had become too wide in 3.0 and was one of the many reasons that Bolster caused problems. PvP gear needs to be slightly less powerful than PvE gear in PvE with Expertise making it better in PvP. It should be an advantage, but not an insurmountable one. No, but the 216 relics and enhancements are.... Yes they are kinda expensive right now, but they are craftable.
Drudenfusz Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Since I am mostly a PvP player, I like that the PvP gear and PvE gear are now closer together, so that I can try occationally to run some PvE stuff. But now I wonder, how much hyperbole is OP using, is the PvE gear really that bad as he claims?
Jarvus Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 No hyperbole here nor any intended. A player in 208 pvp gear will not only do more damage than a player in 216 pve gear but the lower lvl pvp gear has a set bonus that is somewhat meaningful, as well as full 2018 expertise. That makes 208 pvp gear best in slot except for lvl 220 pve gear by my reckoning. If you have 208 pvp gear, take an armor piece and go compare it, without augment, to the 216 pve gear you could buy with glowing crystals.

Expertise means nothing in PvE, so why mention it in this context? Assuming you are correct and 208 WZ gear is better than 216 glowing gear, that could be yet another in the series of incentives they have been adding to get people to PvP more, Edited November 14, 2015 by branmakmuffin
