I brought my old sorc out of hiding, hadn't played since the Hutt Carter was new. Only got her to 48 also....Point is basically noob to the class.

I'm finding that I never have a need for Force Lightning while questing and what I've done so far, is there even a need for it on my bars? Is it vital later on? Seems to be the only ability that doesn't proc anything nor get buffed by a proc (at least so far)

No if you go Lighting spec , Yes if you use madness

I was looking at the tooltips and noticed that Force Lightning states it does more damage over the concentration than Force Storm does, so I decided to give it a shot to fight single mobs instead of using an AoE attack, but after watching quite a few fights and trying with Force Lightning and Force Storm, I noticed that even single mobs go down faster when using Force Storm. It doesn't make sense in my head, but it's true, so I just stopped using Force Lightning at all, not when Force Storm is just as effective and I don't have to worry if it's a single mob or multiple ones with it. It's like why even bother with Force Lightning.

*EDIT* After thinking about it, I think I know why Force Storm is more effective, it's because Force Storm will trigger instant casts on Force Bolt and Chain Lightning, quite regularly, and Force Lightning doesn't. So while the Lightning might do more damage by itself, it's clear that you get the most damage overall using Force Storm instead to get the procs.
