Are Crewskill Mission drops rigged?

I swear the crappy ones like the gathering missions are weighted to drop more. Seems like I only get 1 slicing mission per 20 missions. Sometimes with 10 people going out for Boxes I will get as many as 4 or 5 gathering missions back. Seriously why are gathering missions even in the game? Please tell me why I would want to waste a companion on a 45 minute Mission, when he could be slicing? I can spend 2 mins on Yavin 4 and get the same results.

Also Im sure its been brought up but how bout we get those nice Legendary Companion gifts from UWT missions.

Yes they are. Slicing is the least common possible mission drop.

The gathering skill missions are in fact well worth it now: Using one companion, you can get the equivalent of running four rich missions in 45 minutes (the time it takes to run two missions) and roughly 30% the credits: 5k vs 16k

Why would I (or anyone else) use them? because I would rather be doing ANYTHING else than farming materials on Yavin 4. And because it only takes me ten seconds to unlock the mission, and send a companion out, and then switch characters. 45 minutes or ten hours later, I have 16 units of two types of materials, it's brainless.

Those gifts don't come from crew missions.

You get them as rewards for Heroics (not guaranteed though) and you can also buy them with Common Data Crystals at a vendor inside the Odessen cantina.

- Yavin is boring, no question about it, but with all that FREE Bio, metals or archaeology lying around, it's hard not to take the mission in the area, let your companion farm the mobs while you fill your pockets with free stuff.

With a second companion gathering stuff like Vanadium flux, zoosha or nervesplicers on CD,

Another 2/3 making the cell grafts or w/e on CD then 2 characters and 20 minutes gets most of what I need for the rest of the week. - And after a 2/3 weeks you can hand in the weekly for 8 missions completed.

It's the kind of activity to do while in a WZ queue or while waiting for the rest of your guild to stop tooling around and join up for something more interesting. Or if you have a few mins log-in time and are spinning around everyone queuing up their next tasks.

Its a tradeoff between profit margin and RL time.

Besides, GTN prices for Bio are very high at the moment, coz Lokin is porking his way through 1000s of the stuff during the event. - I can't wait for the weekend! :)

It's funny, when I played WoW, when I was in those situations (queued for something, or waiting for guild to organize a raid or whatever) I would go to an area and farm materials, and I found the act and process of farming materials somewhat relaxing. In SWTOR, I just find it boring. Maybe because in WoW it was necessary, I resigned myself to doing it and made the best of the situation. Now that I do not have to (because I can send out companions), I just refuse. I still gather in the field but I do not farm; the distinction being while doing other things if there is a node on my path I will go get it vs actively seeking nodes to gather.
