Suggestions and opinions regarding classes and specs

Hello guys,

I'm new to the game with experience in MMOs. I've got a lv. 60 boost and I'd like to ask for some opinions on which class to spend it - I'm asking class since I presume Sith / Jedi doesn't make that much of a difference.

Here's what I fancy playing / what I'm looking for - a somewhat flashy playstyle, so to speak, no blasters / guns - only lightsabers / staves. I'm looking for something capable of putting down solid damage, but able to also sustain himself - although that should require some skill. I'm looking for something that is competitive if one has the skill to play in such a manner, but is not FotM - what is strong now will not be in the next week. I'd also like to maybe run some PvE ocassionally, so that's something to consider as well!

I have toyed a bit with Jedi Consular on Serenity spec and tried a Sith Mara and Juggernaut - I'm just torn between Consular/Inquisitioner and Knight/Warrior - what would you guys recommend I could go for? I'd love a bit of reasoning as well and arguments - if you've got the time! Thank you!

Might i recommend the Fury/Concentration spec for Marauder/Sentinel? They have a higher skill cap than most classes, are not FOTM, and have enough stun immunities to keep you laying out damage. Edited by thereter

If you don't want FOTM the only answer is one of the adv. classes of knight/warrior. PT/Consular/Inquisitor are the FOTM right now.

I think avoiding FOTM classes or picking FOTM classes just because they are the popular classes at any given time is a little ridiculous. Go with the play style that you want. If you want to heal or tank at some point that does factor in your decision too. I main a Guardian and all three specs are effective in PVP. Vigilance is an AOE pressure discipline that is pretty sturdy whereas Focus has a little less survivability but more burst(single target mostly as well). Both are easy to play and put out good damage but Focus is great when the player knows what he is doing from what I can tell.

Honestly the decision between Mara/Sentinal and Jugg/Guardian comes down to whether or not you are going to look for a group to play with. Jugg/Guardian are playable when you're solo whereas Mara/Sentinal have a harder time. I have a free 60 token that I will probably use on a Marauder personally soon just because I think they have a higher ceiling.

Hello! Thanks for the answers!

I wanted to avoid a FotM mainly because I don't want to just "play what's hot right now". I want to play something I like and grow to love!

I've been toying with Marauder and Sentinel a lot - just can't get my feet down on one faction. I fancy their playstyle and I love the fact that they've got a high skill ceiling - it just motivates me to improve.

I would love if someone could tell me whether there are any major differences between factions, from all POVs, including the player base in each.

It depends on the server really. Both sides have their good and bad players but it seems game-wide that Imps are collectively better. More organized, actually get the game, etc. Pubs are nonchalant about PVP and it shows on the Harb lately.

I'm on the Red Eclipse EU server - my MMO experience dictated that pickin' a PvP server is not really that recommended unless you want to be heavily involved in Open World - what do you guys think? I'd like to have all my toons on the same server.
