Came back for KotFE. Just finished the whole story. My thoughts

TL;DR: KotFE is a smooth and easy single player story, just the way I like it.

I originally purchased SWTOR at release, but only played through Balmorra before unsubscribing. When I left, Legacies were a "coming soon" feature.

At the time, the difficulty curve frustrated me a lot. I liked the story, but the grind was so severe in some places that by the time I was strong enough to handle the challenges I'd forgotten what I was doing and why I was doing it. Clearly, at the time, this was not the game for me.

When KotFE was announced, I brushed off my old account and took advantage of the 12x XP to get through Balmorra and beyond. It was much smoother being able to move from quest to quest without hours of grinding up XP or sidequests and I was able to finish off the story in a couple of weeks. I much enjoyed it. If that had been the game back at launch, I might have stayed. I even did a few flashpoints, which I liked. I dove into Makeb headfirst, and around the time I was on the NPC rescue mission 4.0 went live.

For me, the difference was a godsend. Instead of having to literally sit on my butt for a few minutes after each fight (realistic, but not heroic), I could go from fight to fight like a Jedi hurricane. I loved it, but was very disappointed at how my companions went silent. No more input during quest conversations. I understand the budget concerns, but it was sad.

I had mixed feelings while playing the Revan expansion. I liked the solo flashpoints a LOT. I liked Theron and Lana. But something was off about the other quests.

During the Yavin missions, I also came across a huge nuisance. It is way too easy to accidentally attack an opposing player who is flagged for PvP. I don't want to PvP. I hate PvP. I will never willingly PvP in this or any other MMO. But if a PvP flag jumps into a fight I'm engaged in, the targeting can result in my unknowingly hitting that player and flagging myself. Put a @%!@$# verification warning in before your attack turns your PvP flag on!

KotFE was great for the first 8 chapters. I loved having companions that chattered throughout the missions and had input during the cutscenes. I felt like the Jedi Knight character really fit into the story, so much so that I'm a little worried about how well non Force wielders will fit into the story. I intend to play other classes.

Chapter 9's "classic" conversations were a kick in the teeth. I understand the prohibitive cost of voice acting. I really do. But surely there's a way to do this that doesn't take our dynamic protagonist and turn him/her into a silent dullard? Why not have the player take control of Theron for Alliance quests? Make him the "liaison to the Outlander" and talk to the NPCs for you, then relay a written message to you in the field. One voice actor for the Alliance scenes instead of eight classes plus male/female variants. It isn't you, but at least it doesn't make you look like a dullard.

I think I'll be sitting out the Alliance quests and just waiting for Chapter 10. Since I never leveled up anything but a Jedi Knight, I'll try the other classes. Maybe even some tactical flashpoints and story mode ops...actually, every time this game drags me into actual MMO style gameplay, I tend to resent it. Really this is more of a single player game that I have to pay a subscription for that happens to have MMO features that I hate using. So maybe no flashpoints and ops.
