runar_smugler Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 So..can i just copy the whole game over to the new SSD? Do I have to modify the launcher etc? And...I guess its a good thing to have the WIN7 and SWTOR on separate SSD disks? (SWTOR is currently on my normal HD due to space limitations)

Its not good or bad thing, it doesnt really impact anything.

Jerba Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Yes, you can just copy over your SWTOR folder; there are no registry entries for SWTOR. But you may need to update your Desktop shortcuts to point to the new folder. I would recommend to put both Windows and SWTOR on an SSD. SWTOR uses a lot of files on the C: drive (like caches and of course the combat log folder), so to get the full speed you should have your C: drive on an SSD. I have a rather big SSD (500 GB), so there's enough space for both Windows and SWTOR. All of my normal files are on a normal hard-drive though.
DzastinBiberi Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Yes you can, but it's better to just install it on your new SSD where Windows is. I did that for example and the game is running a lot better. For example, launcher with it's ini and checking the files could be 10-20 minutes long, with patching even longer. Now on my SSD it takes less than a minute and the game runs more smoothly. I would go for a fresh instalation of the game on your SSD.

If you are finding the game running slow, sometimes a fresh install helps in itself.
MillionsKNives Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) This is what I would recommend too. If you are finding the game running slow, sometimes a fresh install helps in itself. Whether you're planning on a fresh install or not, now is a good time to make sure you aren't using bitraider (which consequently requires a full redownload if you're on the streaming patcher). It'll only make your life easier. You can tell if you're using the streaming patcher because it has an "ST" in the lower left corner. Also it does all of that annoying reorganizing BS. Here's the instructions to remove it: http://www.swtor.com/community/showpost.php?p=6693353&postcount=2 Edit: Just want to add, it's SSD, not SSD disk. There is no disk in an SSD. There is one in an HDD, but that's covered by the second d. Solid State Drive Hard Disk Drive Edited November 9, 2015 by MillionsKNives
runar_smugler Posted November 9, 2015 Author Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) hmm..oki I have one ssd where my win7 is....and that is almost full (WOW, GW2, many other games and most of my other files too) I have bought another ssd... So....I have the win on the ssd i have, and then i install swtor on the NEW ssd yes? (i have read that having Operation system on one ssd and games on another ssd IS a good thing...so they can work on the disk independent?) I did have swtor on the SSD last year..and i def remember that the loading times where almost cut in half....so my normal hard drive is just a big slow thing (THIS one : WD Desktop Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s, (SATA 3.0), RPM = IntelliPower, 64MB, 3.5")... It would be alot of work for me to put swtor back on the SSD i have..and also..it is slightly slower than the one i bought....mind you only slower in writing..reading is same.¨ My current (almost full SSD): Samsung SSD 840 Series 250GB 2.5" BULK The "new" one: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD SATA6.0Gbps, 3d V-nand 32 layer,MGX ctrl, 540/520 MB/s R/W So to sum up: WIN7 on the old SSD and SWTOR on the new SSD yes? (ps: should i upgrade to WIN10 for swtor? ) and yes..i am on the ST patcher:( Edited November 9, 2015 by runar_smugler
