ForceAamoo Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 It is really sad that they removed main character speech. I really miss my character being able to speak to my companions and others in the game. Also, the new menu is terrible, and I'd rather and so would many other people. But first fix the speech issue please (I've been a subscriber for a long time). Please fix this. I might not play SWTOR again with this issue. It removes the excitement and thrill of scenes and conversation. I was ending KotFE when I realized this happened, stopped playing, and now currently writing this thread. And if I missed or mistook anything, please say something. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE CREATORS SEE THIS. THANK YOU.
jwcash Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Did you ever play Knights of the Old Republic? The new menu is actually more like the game this MMO was originally based on. By cutting out some of the voiced dialogue, we get more content because it requires less resources to create, I figure. Personally, I don't mind. There is still plenty of voiced dialogue, and past the first playthrough I always spacebar through dialogue anyway.
Lakevren Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Better pony up some more money for that character speech then. Either that or tell them to reallocate funds from more content to voice acting instead. Be aware why this type of conversation menu was selected. It opens up more and different conversations and makes a bit more flexible questing. It also adds new content faster and cheaper. If you do it the character voice acting way, they would need to hire ALL of the voice actors/actresses (that's 16, unless some overlap. 1 for each of the 8 class, and 1 for each gender) for each quest at the very least. That adds up not only money, but time as well. Most of this is on minor quests anyways and not on major storylines. I prefer this over those quest textboxes in Rishi and Yavin 4. Also be aware that most of the new companions are not speaking basic. It also means they may not need to rehire the voice actors/actresses for those companions. Overall it's a cost-cutting measure and to make it easier to create new content. It still won't affect the main story quests, however.
TurtlesAWD Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) The classic conversations were a really happy moment for me personally because at long last I'm not annoyed by what my character says not matching the option I picked in tone or content, or even in intent. If lack of voice acting is the price of immersion I'm willing to pay it for a protagonist. Now they could theoretically have the spoken dialogue line match up with the dialogue wheel option but for whatever reason RPGs these days don't... besides divinity: original sin enhanced edition actually which has the voice actors read the dialogue exactly as its written at selection. kezzin Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I played Knights of the Old Republic one and two. And, loved them both. However, I find these conversations to be tedious and annoying. I would be very happy for them to go away. I really would prefer them to just bring back the typical dialog windows and voiced conversations.
Lyresa Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) I just got to the new content and was like what the heck? Not sure I am going to keep playing. Part of the draw to this game is the immersion that I get from the conversations, a one sided conversation.. I can get that in WoW. Seems like the developers just got lazy with removing this. The person that was saying it was a financial thing..... they are making a crapload of money with this game with the cartel market. If they can't keep the game interesting they are going to lose players. Removing one of the more enjoyable things about this game is a real good way to do it. Edited November 7, 2015 by Lyresa
Nippon Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Agree i hate the new window, yes i played KOTOR in its day and that UI was acceptable 15 years ago....
Friye Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 I guess I could get used to the new dialogue options eventually, though despite its small flaws of different actual speech compared to the option you click sometimes I preferred the old version. As someone who isn't a native English speaker however, I always keep the subtitles on - and on top of that, I keep the Conversation on in my chatbox. That way, if people speak too quickly for me, I can always scroll up and re-read what they said. In this new conversation menu, there is no chatbox. If I miss anything, I'll have to re-do the entire conversation or just wing it. I'd really rather know what the hell I'm talking about so I don't miss any of the (amazing) story! Could there at least be a way to have the chatbox back in frame during conversations?
