Tanith Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Loved the game when it first game out. Played through a Sith Inquisitor (level 49) and Republic Trooper (level 50) storyline (though seems I never finished the trooper story according to the character page). Just looking for some advice really on how to proceed. I have a level 60 character creation available (I assume everyone does) but I'm wondering if I should jump into that and focus just on the new storyline. Or if it would be more beneficial for me to level up a new guy from scratch. If I go with a new guy, roughly how long would it take? I don't skip the stories! I understand it's significantly quicker these days than back at launch? Thanks guys. It's good to be back.
Ahrngrim Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 My opinion would be to first start from scratch. BW state that you would need 20-40h for a play trough to lvl 60, with only Class and Planetary Story Oh and welcome back.
Ezrat Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I'm not too sure how long a new character leveled to 60 would take, as the questing has changed slightly. Supposedly you can do just the class story and planetary story arcs (purple quest icons for both) and level up that way. I have not confirmed it. I would recommend trying with a new character and leveling a bit to get back in the swing of things. I personally find it a lot easier to get back into the game like that.

ForceWelder Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 This is just my two cents but I would start with a new character. I say this for a couple of reasons. 1. It takes no time to level at all now. You will be back in the 40s in no time at all. And odds are your two existing characters likely have enough credits on them to unlock things you would care about such as early access to a mount, XP boost, and companion influence from conversations and gifts. 2. Companion influence is better on a new fresh character. It is true. If you have maxed out your gift influence for companions in your legacy, a level 1 green gift that gives a "large" influence will take you to level 15 influence before it drops below 100 influence / turn in. And that is without wasting a single conversation influence gain. You will need to buy 195 of that gift but it will get you to level 15 before it drops to "small" influence status. On your existing companions, the highest influence they earned was 10 and they likely blew through their entire conversation and quest lines to get there. Start a new character and you get to 15 instead with companion gifts from the fleet vendor before you even start using their conversation and storyline influence. You get more bang for your buck. And the higher the influence on the companion, the more powerful they become. 3. A fresh start. You likely don't remember much about your characters and their abilities. Starting from scratch will allow you to learn it the "old fashion way".
Tanith Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 Hmm. Thanks guys. This was pretty much my thinking!
LordSkyKnight Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) Also when questing you will see NPCs with the large purple triangle above their heads. Those are your main storyline quests and they will reward you enough xp to zip through the levels. If you want to do all the little side quests and stuff, open your map window (M key) and click Show Exploration Missions in the upper right hand corner of the window. That will turn on all the side quest NPCs and they will have the gold triangle with a little tiny star symbol. These are extra side quests and reward credits, xp, and crystals. Those crystals are the new name for the commendations that used to drop. You use those crystals to purchase gear on the special vendors on the fleet in the supply section. They sell mods you can put into your orange gear to upgrade it. Also use this community event cantina code. It will send all your current and future characters a community even reward box which contains a free fugly mount and a random dye. Its free and will help you get started with a speeder once you hit the level to train the skill. http://www.swtor.com/user/ce/349ef Edited November 2, 2015 by LordSkyKnight

Enjoy the streamlined story-mode with a lack of grindy-quests - Enjoy KOTFE too! I'm not using a instant 60 just because I would feel like I wouldn't be into the character and I wouldn't have a urge to do a story for a character I wasn't really into. Especially for a class I haven't played. I would recommend waiting on the 60 for when you decide you have a Inquisitor at 60 already and decide you want to try a different spec.
Jerqa Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Good to see people coming back to the game I agree. I've seen 3 and 4 instances of Fleet and other areas ever since 4.0 has launched. I wonder if the movie coming out next month will have an impact? Only time will tell
DannyNR Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I leveled Sith Sorcerer to lvl 50, but then I started to continue leveling my Jedi Guardian, who was leveled to 27. I wanted to make him an alt, because I had no SoR and was waiting for it to be free. Then I said "wow, JK fits me much more than Sorc" and now I finished doing everything. Be ready for that if you will continue with your existing characters and want to do most things before KotFE, you will have to go through RotHC, SoR, Rise of the Emperor. Personally I also get my HK-51. Today I'm ready for KotFE, but it took long I would say that it depends on you and time that you have to play BTW I will use my token to boost an assassin. Don't like this sorc at all
