I left the game since a little before Revan came out and I am wondering what the current state of tanking is. I have played all three of the different styles at least to some extent but I am curious about their viability/ease of play going into 4.0.

I am looking at this from a purely objective standpoint as I generally tend to have the most "fun" min-maxing the current fotm type class. I also change classes all the time according to their power potential so having to swap down the road is pretty much a guarantee for me.

PT : As Tank and dps very nice, however very boring and easy to play

Assa: More Squishy but nice ae. Very hard to master and complicate rotation but, got very nice skills like teleport etc.

Jugg: Best Single target tank, a lot of defense buttons. Not the best ae tank but it works

I like the jugg. He perfectly fits in my mind.

I have done all 2 prior to 4.0. But from what I can tell not much has changed.

Assassin = Hate life, there was too much to manage. I felt like if I messed something up I had trouble figuring out what I needed to fix. I spent the entire time watching my bars, or my buffs, or the debuffs I put on the opponent. I did like the vanish, as it allowed me to reset my stim pack and then taunt back. I was also able to pull less trash as I was able to stealth and sap minions allowing the group to come with.

Jugg= Probably the most fun. I felt like a powerhouse. I felt like I had an ability to use when I needed it, and I didn't have to do them in any order. It was easy to hold agro and if I messed up it was easy to get back on track. Choke and force push allowed me to throw big mobs over rails. It just felt good.

I also have all three at 65, with both mirrors for vanguard and shadow.

shadow can be tiring to play for long periods. you have a lot to watch, and gotta have a cooldown ready for big incoming hits.

jug also has a lot of abilities to fire and watch.

vanguard/pt have the fewest abilities you need to keybind to be effective of any class in the game. they also rely less on defensive cooldowns, and the big one they have (power screen) has quite a short cooldown and is very, very powerful. they can also fully tank and maintain threat at 10 meters, and continue to pump out threat at 30m - for free.

on imperial side there are always more assassins and jugs than pts, on the pub side there are more shadows but guard and vanguard tend to be equal. prob cause vanguard armor is HOT SAUCE. I still wear my columni vanguard set cause it's the best looking heavy armor in the game imo, with only the columni commando chestguard (cause shoulder missiles) having a slight edge.

aesthetics. I played scoundrel back at launch when I realized we got a torchy model blaster (looks like a 6 shooter). since I've been back I took my 55 vanguard up through revan and got a WINCHESTER RIFLE on rishi!!! so hot. SOOOOOOO hot!!!! gotta find some old scoundrel medium armor models to go with it, and an appropriate hat now.
