MrJohnson Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I am returning to the game after a long hiatus and I am simply dumbfounded with everything added. I played the game from Closed Beta and stopped I want to say around a year ago. Would it make more sense to simply start a new character, given all of the changes in leveling up and starting planets, or should I simply dive in and learn it all? No right or wrong answer I suppose, just looking for some input and advice. Thank you in advance and happy gaming. Addendum: I was playing a Jedi Sentinel with a Sage and Infiltrator as my main alts. Any input on which of those classes is really shining for PvE play right now?
GelstonJ Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Start a new one. Leveling is quite streamlined too, so it isn't too much of a grind.

GelstonJ Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Thanks. Any input on what classes are really shining for solo PvE play right now? Just finished 1-65 as a JK, it did well... Although with companions as they are, you likely can be fine with any class. Currently at 36 as a SI, it is pretty good too, like it better than the JK actually. Still, all of them should be pretty good solo. Play what you want to play.
Ketinvik Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Honestly, any of them will work. I'd say play a class you haven't done yet...either trooper on the republic side or one of the Imperial classes. See a storyline you haven't seen yet.
hadoken Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Thanks. Any input on what classes are really shining for solo PvE play right now? All of them, assuming you have a companion out. You really can't choose a 'bad' class for solo pve.
Keypek Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 What above said, level by doing class mission and each planets story mission. Each gives x6 xp compared to last time you played and both will keep you leveled throughout. So doesn't take nearly the effort it used to plus you'll learn how to play your class unlike so many level 60s I see running around using wrong cells or stances right now. Serenity shadow and sentinel are good as far as dps numbers go in pve according to early metrics. Sage is a great healer but bottom third on both specs as far as parse dps numbers but really anything is serviceable and I don't put too much credence in parse numbers when it comes to performing in raids. The shadow can stealth though which helps a lot in the leveling process avoiding stuff plus they're a lot of fun in pvp. Really you're best playing what you like the best.

You last played about a year ago so you could start fresh if you wish because all the class story's starting from Lvl 1 are enhanced (stories not changed just enhanced) and more streamlined to get you to Lvl 65 with out being overgeared or undergeared as you blaze through the planets also every one gets a cartel token and a free level 60 character of your choice when you go to start a new toon so you can start in the new content KoFE with the level 60 and then start a new fresh Lvl 1 and work on the pre content. The new xpack content takes place after the planets of Makeb, Rishii, Yavin 4 & Oricon and when you create the free Lvl 60 you start after these planets with the stories completed.
MrJohnson Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Because of the Beta I played all of the classes but one, Jedi Shadow and Sith Assassin. I liked the Jedi story a bit more than the Sith but how are those classes in 4.0?
GelstonJ Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) I prefer the Sith story a lot more. It comes down to preference. They are both fairly equal in playability. Edited October 28, 2015 by GelstonJ

I am going to go Jedi Shadow from level 1 and still have think on the 60 boosted (I assume if I make a new level 1 I do not lose the 60 boost I hope). I like the Sith a bit but playing the IA made the other stories just pale in comparison. I am also one of those people that thinks about things and I like that the Republic is more grounded in reality whereas the Sith is all about killing to advance and survival of the fittest with gloomy planets juxtaposed to the Republics more lively...but tis personal taste and preference as you said. Thanks again to everyone and happy hunting! Edited October 28, 2015 by MrJohnson

You could potentially be out of character slots if you are full though, so be on the look out for that.

I liked the Jedi story a bit more than the Sith but how are those classes in 4.0? The classes are more defined easier to choose and the skills are a bit more detailed with prestrike attacks that enhance the next attack or proc a boost damage for a duration of 6 seconds for example. The best way for you to see is to make a couple toons and get a feel decide from there xD
