Why won't Bioware answer our questions on customizing KOTFE companions?

Why is Bioware refusing to answer our questions about customizing KOTFE companions?

There are multiple threads a day about this and Bioware just flat out ignores them.

What is the reason for not allowing us to customize the companions? Some of these characters have been in the Star Wars universe for a whole 8 days now so please don't say they have "iconic" or "epic" looks.

Whoever was behind this decision, that was an idiotic move.

This must be fixed.

The only thing I can think is that they are blaming this on the Hammerhead companion. It would probably take too much work for them to fit outfits on him due to his size and shape. However, they could have just treated him like Treek or any of the droids and just give us customizations for him.

They don't care.

The irony is that it will effect their profits.

I guess they figured it was cheaper that way.

I speculate EA will try and sell you appearance skins on the cartel market that change their look from head-to-toe.(terrible idea anyhow)

I'm using Jaesa because she can be customized and would be my bisexual toon of preference if possible.(make it happen EA)

"You can still dress and equip your Companion as you like, unify colors on them and toggle their helmets on and off." They say this and yet we are unable to customize KOTFE companions?

Maybe because, ya know, they are working on the game and have better things to do than micromanage every quibble asked?

*Popcorn*

Yup, "better things." Like level sync?

It's not a high priority when they'd be in bug seek and destroy mode just after a new major patch. Besides, I would assume it is work in progress given the new Xalek is customisable. Throwing hissy fits and being permanently offended/enraged is exhausting... I much prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait and see.

Xalek has always been customizable. This was a conscious decision to not allow us to customize the new KOTFE companions.

I am just glad there isn't 100 naked Lana's walking about the fleet

I put my stamp of approval on the no customization so i don't have to look at massive amounts of oddities that people cook up when dressing up their dollies.

I just opened a help ticket about this issue. It was my understanding that we we going to be able to dress companions how ever we wanted. It is bad enough that the message about not having access to old companions was so vague I lost some great looking items not to mention the 192 bound to companion gear awarded from Sor flashpoint on yavin that was turned into bound to legacy gear in 4.0 update. Then I was sent all the ol gear from companions that I removed and got rid of long ago. I thought the whole idea of this "GREAT COMPANION CHANGE" was to have the ability to dress them up and make them look how we wanted.

It is kind of stupid to see everyone with the same looking Lana Beniko, Thank goodness I have some HK-51 Customizations so I can at least be somewhat different.

Early on we wanted to be able to customise our armor with dyes. They took forever to come out with the dyes and they weren't really how we wanted to go about colouring our gear... but it does the job. I fully expect them to do something like that in the future with the locked comps. Maybe we won't be able to customise them fully as we can the old comps, and maybe it won't be quite how we'd like but they will come up with something I'm sure. Perhaps something similar to the features customisation the old comps have.

I can fully understand their reticence to allow people to put key characters in their underwear or dancer outfits though.... which would happen far too often. Given we can customise the new-old chars they are not opposed to the idea; maybe its a matter of finding a way to limit the customisation options due to how they would show up in cut scenes, clipping... or just the "too silly" factor. The non-key companions are easily excluded from cut scenes, key ones... not so much.

It would be jarring to have a comp who is standing next to you wearing one outfit, showing up in the cut scene wearing a totally different one. And I would guess that the cut scenes don't currently have the flexibility to allow on the fly model construction of the NPCs. I would assume a technical hitch to why it isn't being done right now and not leap to the 'THEY DON'T CARE, THEY HATE KITTENS" reaction.

Really? I would think that the $15 per month I pay (and others that pay) would disagree with you on that.

Yes really. I agree with you...but the reality is, it's not about "us" any longer...it's the year of Bioware's story...not yours, not mine...just theirs.

Hmm definitely call exaggeration of "multiple threads a day about this". lol

But for the sake of argument, why is YOUR topic any more important than the months worth of "Server Merge for dead Servers" or the more recent "Level Sync" or "Companions are OP" threads??

Honestly this is the first thread I've seen even complaining about this topic that I remember seeing. So no it's not a big issue.

While it's unusual, they have a reason for the time being. Give them time to even get things situated. It's not like the expansion didn't just open up over a week ago. *smh*

haha Amusing. You seem to think that your $15/month means squat to them in the grand scheme of things. You've been here long enough to know better than that Ziva.

You pay $15/mos to access THEIR game & play it the way they designed it for you to play. Nothing else.

They take feedback, but in the end they have the final say.

So TUXs was quite right stating "Their story.". Because that's all we are doing. Playing their story, where choices matter very little, if at all. ;)

The reason you can't customize the new companions is because they're not built/modeled/rendered the same way as the old companions.

For instance, Koth doesn't have a naked/underwear model. His clothing is part of his character model.

It's pretty obvious that almost all the new important story NPCs introduced in KOTFE have unique character models. In the vanilla game it's very apparent that nearly all the (human looking) characters (NPCs, Companions, etc) were built using something similar to the character creation tool.

It's a trade off basically. The more detail they put into making the new companions look unique and different the less customizable freedom you have.

Exactly!!! I wasn't trying to be negative, I was trying to explain that the story is dictating what we can do now. They don't want players taking Darth Marrs mask off or dressing Lana in a her underwear...the story is why we lost companion customization's...because these are Bioware's characters...not yours. You can still wear whatever you like, but Bioware's characters will be how they want them to be...because it fits the story.

I think it is a little early to say they are ignoring this, but I do hope they will address the matter soon. :(

I know some people just don't care about companion customization (see also: people who used Treek on all of their characters), but I am not one of them and I believe I am not alone in this. The new companions not being customizeable is really putting me off the expansion. I'm attached to a lot of my current companions, but could trade them in during a great story . . . if only their replacements weren't what are, to me, downgrades. The fact that they have unique models doesn't even begin to make up for the lack of customization. Again, at least not for me.

Oh, and if there were objections to dressing these new companions in skimpy gear? Easy solution: give them the same "bug" Vector (still!) has so they have a perma-bodysuit for their skin. I really don't think that was the issue here though.

We cant customize them because they might not be there later in the story. Which is the same reason they aren't talking about it. They are not going to toss "spoilers" out there about how so and so is dying in chapter 10-16.

I think they ran out of time to make cut scenes show your companion gear.

Its a financially bad move not allowing someone to customize their companion.

More barbies to dress up = more dresses you have to buy = more cartel market sales

I have never seen any female companion with only bikinis. Never, and i have played for a long time.

I for one prefer have clothes on, in my case, i would have Lana wear the same armor as i am.

This hopefully gets fixed soon.

Gets fixed? It's not broken lol...it's their character, not yours. The companions are a part of their story. Don't hold your breath...it's working as intended.
