boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I have a security key on my account and it's gotten way out of sync ... is there any way to resync the key short of removing it and re-applying it?
JWagner Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I have a security key on my account and it's gotten way out of sync ... is there any way to resync the key short of removing it and re-applying it? Are you using the SWTOR app? If you go through the settings, theres a sync option.
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Yes, I am using the app. However, when I click on the only button on the app, all I get are EULA, TOS, etc ... no "settings".
JWagner Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Yes, I am using the app. However, when I click on the only button on the app, all I get are EULA, TOS, etc ... no "settings". At the bottom of that list, it should say "Sync Now". According to screenshots. I switched to Google Authenticator, so cannot confirm that's still true. That's just a screenshot from the play store entry.
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Nope ... there is no sync option. Here is a screen cap : http://postimg.org/image/5vpmvzfrz/
JWagner Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Nope ... there is no sync option. Here is a screen cap : http://postimg.org/image/5vpmvzfrz/ Strange. Looks different from the one they have posted. Your best bet would be to remove it and re-install in that case then. If you have access to Google Authenticator, I honestly prefer it's UI over the swtor ui anyway. Cleaner to read.
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) I'm willing to switch to google authentication .... any special instructions to set it up for swtor? or do you set it up just like theirs? Edited October 27, 2015 by boteDohow
JWagner Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I'm willing to switch to google authentication .... any special instructions to set it up for swtor? or do you set it up just like theirs? It sets up very similar. You'll activate, it'll give you a code, you enter that code into authenticator, authenticator gives you a 6-digit number, and you enter 6-digit number into swtor. You'll just have to do manual instead of barcode entry, since swtor doesn't do barcode setup yet.
embertopaz Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Out of curiosity which app were your using? iOS, newer or older Android?
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) iOS version of the app. Edited October 27, 2015 by boteDohow
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 I downloaded the google app, no issues. Removed the swtor authenticator, no issues. Running through the manual setup on the google authenticator .. Enter the serial number from swtor ... Enter the number from the google app on the swtor page ... Get "we couldn't find your serial" from swtor website ... retyped swtor serial multiple times to make sure i didn't muck it up ... thoughts?
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 now this is messed up ... if I wait until after the number on the google app expires and the next one is showing ... it works ... something is still out of sync
JWagner Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Removed and re-added just so I can refresh the steps. 1) SWTOR: Setup a new security key 2) SWTOR: If prompted, use 1-time code from email 3) SWTOR: Type in the s/n from this program directly into Google Auth 4) Google: New Account 5) Google: Enter provided key 6) Google: Type in the s/n from step 3 exactly as seen. 7) Google: Make sure name is what you want it, and it is set for time based 8) Google: Click 'Add' 9) Google: Check code for new SWTOR key. 10) SWTOR: Enter the code from Google. That worked for me. Maybe the S/N was entered wrong? Is the time on your device correct? I read your recent reply. Verify the time on your device is synced correctly, and then try going to settings, time correction, Sync Now. Edited October 27, 2015 by JWagner
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 I'm 100% certain I've entered the serial from swtor correct. If I hadn't I would think that the code wouldn't work after it expired. I think the time is the more likely cause like you indicated ... I have my phone set to set time automatically ... but when I pull up my phone time and the time from NIST http://www.time.gov/ they don't match, they are nearly 60 seconds off ... so it appears that the problem is the time on my phone. Which ... since that comes from the carrier would indicate a problem with the time signal sent by them .... and good luck trying to explain that to them ...

Of course, it doesn't really help too much when the carrier time is off. The only way around that would be to manually set the clock, and then tell your carrier to step up their game. Either that, or remember to use an old code when you log in Unfortunately, authenticator codes are based on the clock of the device compared to clock of the server
boteDohow Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Thanks for sticking with me through it Now, I'm going to go yell at my carrier.
