I am very disappointed by the new content and the changes that have been made. I’d like to end my paid subscription and go to free to play, but I have some concerns.

I have a level 60 character currently trapped in the SWKotFE story content (which is the reason for cancelling my subscription) and I’m wondering if he will remain trapped there, without the companions he is supposed to have (no need to keep these new ones as I dislike them all)?

Keep in mind, this isn’t the FREE level 60 character we got for being subscribers, this is a second one that I paid real money for.

Has anyone been through this situation yet?

Once you start KotFE, your previous companions are gone and a new crew will be recruitable. Some companions you get via the main story, some through Alliance unlocks. Supposedly there is a terminal to get others? I believe that terminal is bugged at the moment.

But if you are "trapped" in the content, you can use a fleet pass at any time to take a break and do other things.

By "Trapped" I mean that I can't just leave it altogether as if it never happened. It has ruined the experience for me and I feel like I've been cheated out of real money for several reasons. I like SWtOR, but SWKotFE isn't even the same game and I do not care for it.

Also, I realize that I can go back to the fleet whenever I like, but that doesn't restore my old companions or allow me to 'Abandon' the SWKotFE story/missions. That character is still chained to it.

Also note that this isn't the only reason pushing me to ending my subscription. Level syncing and the changes made to companions in general are all factors. I consider all of them to be steps backward away from improving the game.

why don't you just delete the character and make a new one? the "free level 60" is tied to the slot. not the character.

Edit: oh wait. i misread. sorry about that.

Ah. In Bioware's defense, I do believe they warn about that when you initially start it.

On the brightside, I believe this yellow post refers to a terminal where you can get your pre-KotFE companions (that aren't part of the KotFE story? maybe?) back at somepoint? I will be honest, I am not clear on its functionality.

This is NOT the free level 60. I paid for this one.

I'm curious how you feel like you've been cheated out of real money.

You paid for new content, you got new content. Whether you like it or not is a different matter. Not to mention, we've lost companions in story arcs before (Agent loses Kaliyo for quite a while).

It also sucks BW won't come out and tell us when we can get them back officially and not this crappy, "You get them back, it's just non canon" garbage, but you got what you paid for.

but yeah, the only comps you get to keep for certain are treek and the old HK. it's a blow to the chest but they did say your old comps would be off doing things after five years and you'd have to re- recruit them.

I think that's the companion terminal that should be fixed tomorrow morning.

I've been looking and I can't find any text on the SWtOR website that says you won't be able to abandon the SWKotFE content once it is started. :(

But thanks for the info on the terminal. Maybe it will be fixed tomorrow (Tuesday the 27th). If not, I'm back in the same boat (I also want to remove the missions from my mission tracker. I dislike them that much.)

I am sorry you dislike it. To each their own.

If you haven't made it to the end of KotFE I would advise doing so. At the very least that should put you in a position to get the companions you do like. As for the ones you don't, can always just never summon them ever again lol

No, the 'content' was free with my subscription. What I paid for was a second level 60 character that began it's life trapped in the new content. My argument stands.

All I'm looking for is the choice to abandon the new mission line and take my level 60 back to the SWtOR. Is having that option too much to ask?

This is one of the reasons why some of my 65's were leveled without running KOTFE content. I leveled and still have all my original companions.

Yeah, this is the only reason I'm still playing it; the hope that I can get to the end and just never start the next one. I'm in chapter 7 now and the currently available content ends at chapter 11 (funny, isn't it? That chapter 11 might mark the loss of a subscriber? <snicker>). I need to blow through it ASAP as it l'm not sure if the next few chapters will also be mandatory. If I can escape the chain by finishing before they are released then I want the opportunity to do so.

If only I had known. <le sigh> I envy you. That wasn't sarcasm, I really do.

I think once you start KotFE it will be there for a long time in your mission log. Basically, there is no way back. The best you can do (within the game) is make the best of the KotFE timeline. Ends at Chapter 9 btw

I do hope you can get the companions you like back from the terminal and make everything a bit better for your game experience.

Chapter 9, actually. I'm staring at a Chapter X doodad in the top right corner of my screen of my free-60.

What I don't get, though, is why you bought a 60 when you should have known what would happen based on your free one.

The key here is that a pre-rolled 60 starts in KotFE and therefore can't get those companions back, because that character never actually had them in the first place. (Yes, I know, I saw the cinematics during Chapter One, so I know it doesn't actually happen quite like that, but it might as well be like that.)

Yes it is to much to ask. If it was a character you leveled from 1 up to 60 maybe you would have something to complain about. This wasn't even your free lvl 60 you get. It was a second instant lvl 60 you bought. So you knew what you were getting into. The instant lvl 60 never had the old content and is placed in the new story at the start. They told you this repeatedly. Don't like it then don't buy anymore instant lvl 60s. Lvl up old school .

Wait... I have been trying to be as sympathetic as possible. But I misinterpreted. For some reason when you said you paid for the character I thought you were referring to time spent on the character as a subscriber.

I am now a tad perplexed because if you used a free level 60 token, you would know exactly what to expect with a second one... right?

They're supposed to fix the companion terminal tomorrow so you can get all your old ones back before having to wait on them for the story aspect in KoTFE.

As for the free 60...I really wish they hadn't locked you into KoTFE and simply had a big pop up like when you made your legacy that says "Would you like to explore content before jumping into KoTFE?" with two options. It'd be nice for new players to at least get to talk to their companions and get some back story before jumping into KoTFE. I've played most classes to 50 (still getting my Snuggler up to 50,) but now that they've tied companion conversations to progression and not affection, it's really nice to be able to talk to the companions I never really used much as see how they impact the story in different ways.

Once you go preferred or F2P you wont have access to FE any longer so most likely the quest will go away and if you haven't recruited you're old companions back then most likely will have zero companions

Exactly; I did all the new content (at least as far as I was willing to go, which was thru Chapter 8, and part-way into Chapter 9) on the free L60 and am back to casual grinding all of my original L60s up to L65 on Yavin whenever the mood hits.

That way, I kept all of my "original" companions, such as they now are in their generic, boring, and sad form.

I discovered that the story of KotFE was actually quite good. I really liked it for the most part.

But that is as far as the play-value of combat upgrade goes; everything else in the new game experience is a vast, grey, dull wasteland, just like Ziost.

No reputation grind (aka the Alliance series), no PvP (aka M1-4X grind), and no Qyzen forced-grouping (aka juggernuts (sp) points-for-doughnuts) for me.

I am sooo glad I did not touch my original characters!!

I augmented all of my companion gear sets when I prepped for the coming of KotFE, and so far, the new 208s are a wash when it comes to upgrade value, because all of my characters, including the new L65, do just fine with those old, augmented sets. Thank goodness for the appearance tabs!!

My subscriptions lapse in mid-November; I will easily have everyone up to L65 by then.

Then I will just wait until Bioware runs a new 'renewal' promotion, and see what is available for 'returning' subscribers. Until then, I can save my subscription allowance.

I never thought I'd be back on Yavin so soon.

Actually, once you subscribe and gain access to KoTFE, you will have all chapters unlocked so far, Even if you go Preferred you WILL keep the access that you had, you just have to resubscribe to gain access to any NEW chapters.
