Svarthrafn Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 From a strictly non-mechanical standpoint, I enjoyed the new chapters; but something has been bugging me. It doesn't feel like Star Wars. There are some superficial items that try to keep it anchored, but something just doesn't feel right. The only parts that really gave me that Star Wars feel were a certain person and a ghost chatting over a fire. I know this can't be just me. Most of the surface elements are in place that tell you this should be Star Wars, but what is it missing?

Most of the surface elements are in place that tell you this should be Star Wars, but what is it missing? See I had the opposite reaction, It felt at times almost like I was being beaten down with star wars themes and tropes, starting with the carbonite rescue to all the destiny chatter and the building of a small alliance to fight the enemy. The only non-star-wars element was the republic and the empire working together, but honestly that's such a refreshing change. How many times can we watch a Jedi/Sith conflict w/o it becoming redundant? I feel that these kind of takes on the universe keep it from that. That's just my two cents though.
Drudenfusz Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 For me it definitly feels like Star wars, from the first trailer it was clear, BioWare has seen that the films had all been to a certain extend about a family drama, and those family themes are handled great in KotFE. I love it, it is all I want from Star Wars. Sure, it is a little sad that it is not the family of my characters, and that it seems like all the old romances are thrown out and one has pretty much start that all over again, but at least the theme is now present, hope BioWare will use it also in regard of the characters themselves in future stories.

trancejeremy Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It feels like Star Wars, but the Expanded Universe Star Wars which focused on the events after the war
Duck_of_Death Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 For me it`s generic Science Fantasy- not unlike Final Fantasy- with too much lightsabering. If I had to do the " Kill 10 rats" quest, I would be afraid that at least half of them would have lightsabers.

Breech Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Well... An alliance of people fighting some evil empire with an overwhelming army, born from a rebellion... A sinister yet very powerfull force user in a imperial throne, force-ghosts, jedi nuked... Yeah, it feels quite Star Wars to me...
Vhaegrant Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Feels like Star Wars to me. You have to destroy shield generators on a planet surface to take down the orbiting space station. You don't get any more 'Return of the Jedi' than that.
darkov Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It felt like Star Wars, but it was definitely more like expanded universe than the films. Everyone having a lightsaber was a bit off, and the one cutscene to fit all classes was a bit off as well. But definitely the most Star Warsy content to date, even if it is all a bit stupid (how many powerful evil empires are there?).

Alec_Fortescue Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It would feel much more like Star Wars if Jedi were able to wear their iconic outfits...
Jedi_riches Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It would feel much more like Star Wars if Jedi were able to wear their iconic outfits... Does every thread you enter have to get reduced to the same useless question. Back to the OP it felt very star wars with my Jedi Knight with some epic lightsaber cinematic cut scenes and a powerful force based enemy. I can't say after playing chapters 1-9 that I can say I am going to feel the same for none force sensitive characters as: even my jedi knight gets his *** handed to him throughout I cant see how any none force sensitive players would just not get carved up in a second.

The expansion is definitely written for the Knight. Everything else seems to be shoe horned in.
Jedi_riches Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The expansion is definitely written for the Knight. Everything else seems to be shoe horned in. I can see it being very relevant to a Sith Warrior too, but I can also see my consular and inquisitor in this story too just not the 4 none force users.

It felt alright on my Shadow, except for the cutscenes, where I was holding my saber like it was a single blade and clipping into my own legs during the fights. Given the Sith Warrior's past relationship to the Emperor, I would expect it to feel a little off given the lack of references to the original stories.

Alec_Fortescue Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The expansion is definitely written for the Knight. Everything else seems to be shoe horned in. Knight and Warrior both fit in good, although Knight takes the charge. Other classes less so, unfortunatelly.
pandasteaks Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 of course it feels like star wars... family feuds, light sabers, a small force against an over whelming large one, ghosts talking to people still alive, the struggle of accepting the power of the dark side or trusting in your allies and the light...I could go on but its obvious to me the op hasn't ever watched a star wars movie.
Nyysjan Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Knight and Warrior both fit in good, although Knight takes the charge. Other classes less so, unfortunatelly. I played it with my agent (inquisitor next), it was a decent fit for the most part, except the alliance part, my character would be more likely to prop up someone else as the head honcho (Lana maybe?), and operate from the shadows. But i think my inquisitor will fit right in. As for it being Star warsy? Hell yes. And as someone earlier pointed out, it's more Extended Universe than classic Star Wars (never before seen threat coming out of nowhere forcing empire/republic to work together? where have i seenthis before?), but still Star Wars.
Bobs_YourUncle Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Yeah the Star Wars is strong in this one. It has all the elements of what I know of SW... An emperor who tempts a force user. A central hero with the task of forming an alliance to battle an evil empire. Aliens, lightsabers, the Force, a smuggler, droids, and cantinas. What isn't star warsy about it?
trueKieran Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Sure, it is a little sad that it is not the family of my characters I wouldn't be so sure about that. So far the family tree in our Legacy is the only thing that says the emperor can't be somehow our father too and since you can have one of your chars set to be married to another one in there without it having an effect on the romances ig, the Legacy isn't really a reason to stop them from comming up with that.
astrobearx Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Feels like mass effect with sabers lol how? is there an ancient sentient machine race that wants to wipe out all life to "restart" the galaxy? what, no? then it isn't "mass effect with lightsabers" and to answer the OP, yes 4.0 looks and feels like star wars and i love it.
trueKieran Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 how? is there an ancient sentient machine race that wants to wipe out all life to "restart" the galaxy? No but to be fair, there's an ancient ship that can take on an entire fleet.
