That's when the marketing blitz for the new movie begins, and that when you can expect to see real info as BioWare will be riding the hype train for maximum exposure. After all they don't need to do much to keep the ones who are already hooked. It's all about pulling in the new ones now. And at least September 4 is drawing close now. I don't think they are riding the hype train as much as some think. They are releasing KotFE in october, not december like the movie. They also said at Gamescom that there will be no connection between SWTOR and the new films. It also appears that Disney doesn't care about SWTOR or what Bioware does with it, since it isn't technically canon. Speaking of which, to all the trolls on the SW subforum, no SWTOR is not canon but the Revenant trilogy will be full of references to KOTOR and SWTOR, which will make a lot of it canon. It's not about whether or not the game/expansion has anything to do with the movie: it's the fact that there's going to be a marketing and merchandise apocalypse for 105 straight days beginning on September 4. Anything that is officially licensed Star Wars product is going to receive mainstream exposure. Do you think it's coincidence that EA is releasing this expansion during Disney's planned marketing blitz? And why spend the advertising money yourself when you can let Disney's deep pockets do the heavy lifting for you? Disney is going to get people hitting the search engines looking for Star Wars, and Star Wars: The Old Republic will pop up during those searches: the job will be half done for BioWare, so why make it tougher to find that information by releasing it at a time when it's going to be competing for press coverage with every other game under the sun because of convention season (E3, SDCC, Gamescon, Pax Prime)? Furthermore, it's also hardly coincidence that EA announced the expansion in front of an audience that is traditionally not interested in MMORPGs; that they emphasized "the return to BioWare storytelling"; or that EA has nearly one month between the launch of this expansion and the launch of Battlefront. They're going after an audience that does not traditionally pay MMORPGs (hence little emphasis on new MMORPG specific content); and they're going hold access to Battlefront hostage in exchange for coverage of KotFE so that gaming sites that don't cover MMORPGs very often will have to give the expansion some coverage in order to provide any substantial coverage of Battlefront. No, they're not trying to directly tie into the movie: they don't have to. They're just waiting until Disney stirs up the hunger for Star Wars product, and that's when they'll be there with an appetizer called Knights of the Fallen Empire.
