Ioluval
Hey fellow tanks. What ways have you guys found to parse your defensive numbers? I've been testing on the champion Grophets on Rishi, which are close to ideal (small, consistent kinetic damage), but not perfect (lvl 58, occasionally they'll stun you). And I couldn't find any lvl 60 champions except for that one rare on Yavin, who is definitely not soloable. Any tips or suggestions for some better enemies to parse on? Are there any different strategies I should be aware of?
wadecounty
Parsing in terms of the damage you do to the enemy, or in terms of damage taken? If its the former, you can use a world boss, as I don't believe you do extra damage against enemies that are low level, you just have a higher accuracy against them but as a tank you wouldn't have missed anyways. Not positive on this though. Also, I wouldn't parse on the Grophets as they have a natural resistance to force attacks. Another option would be one of the minibosses in hard mode Blood Hunt, just have your healer keep you alive and be the only one attacking, although it takes more set-up work and it has to be one of the ones without knockbacks/stuns. If its the latter, parsing won't tell you a lot, as the damage that goes out in boss fights in ops is highly variable, with different damage types, different rates, avoidable attacks, etc, and most of what makes a good tank is their ability to be in the right place and direct traffic, not having perfectly min/maxed mitigation stats (which would vary per fight anyways). Ioluval
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant damage taken, not dealt. Obviously real world situations are highly variable. Damage parsing doesn't mean much either, with all the mechanics in most boss fights (though I've found Trapjaw to be the best to do DPS parsing, as he has high health, no mechanics, and will keep Retaliation up 100% of the time). If I wanted to find out my damage on a boss fight, I'd just go over my log again. I'm basically trying to compare gear stats and trying to find out optimal stat distributions. I agree that skill & preparation are key, but I don't see why I shouldn't try to min-max either.
OMGITSJAD
I'm basically trying to compare gear stats and trying to find out optimal stat distributions. I agree that skill & preparation are key, but I don't see why I shouldn't try to min-max either. Sadly there haven't been any easy to follow gear numbers posted for these bosses like there were for DF/DP, but it's not really hard to guess what type of damage you're taking from boss to boss I would imagine, and you can look at starparse's damage taken tab as well. I could be completely wrong about my guesses, but I hate math so I'm not about to do some formula to figure out optimal gear. As a Jugg, I would imagine that if the thing you're taking the most damage from has a defense %, you want to have a good bit of defense. If the heavy hitters only have a shield %, you want more absorb. Definitely an oversimplification, but it's not like the damage going out is really that complicated. I would say to gear mostly defense for Sparky, Bulo, Master and Blaster if you're only tanking Blaster, Malaphar and Underlurker. Go absorb heavy if you're taking Master(and probably Revan, haven't seen this fight yet personally). Go balanced for Walkers(this becomes more complicated because it depends on which boss you're taking and what strat you're doing. If you're just taking walker 2, you could probably get by with going defense heavy. If you're taking walker 1 and walker 2 when he swaps, go balanced), M&B if you're tanking both bosses, Torque, and Revanite Commanders(and probably Coratanni, still haven't seen this fight yet personally either). Methoxa
Sadly there haven't been any easy to follow gear numbers posted for these bosses like there were for DF/DP #1 Sparky : M/R+K/E : 54.24% F/T+K/E : 23.14% F/T+I/E : 23,2% #2 Bulo : M/R+K/E: 74,4% F/T+K/E: 14,1% F/T+I/E: 11,5% #3 Torque : M/R+K/E: 65,6% F/T+K/E: 10,4% F/T+I/E: 25% #4 Master/Blaster : M/R+K/E : 40,4% F/T+K/E : 40,9% F/T+I/E : 18,7% #5 Coratanni < Cora + Ruugar> M/R+K/E : 31,9% F/T+K/E : 28,7% F/T+I/E : 39,4% #1 Malaphar : M/R+K/E: 52,6% F/T+K/E: 0% F/T+I/E: 47.4% #2 Sword Squadron : M/R+K/E: 51,5% F/T+K/E: 48,5% F/T+I/E: 0% #3 Underlurker : M/R+K/E: 83,2% F/T+K/E: 16,8% F/T+I/E: 0% #4 Commanders : M/R+K/E: 70,4% F/T+K/E: 18,1% F/T+I/E: 11,5% #5 The Returned : M/R+K/E: F/T+K/E: F/T+I/E : Just look the numbers up in kbn's thread and you'll have your stats. Most bosses however favour defense over shield and absorb for a juggernaut. For SM you don't have to min-max for each boss, for HM however it might be handy to do so. I am using one equip with 1455 defense 1178 shield and 1200 absorb using a b-mod setup which leaves me at 55k hp and roughly 3800 defstats in total. With all that F/T+I/E dmg which can not be reduced by defstats its good to have some extra hp. I would say to gear mostly defense for Sparky, Bulo, Master and Blaster if you're only tanking Blaster, Malaphar and Underlurker. This would be only viable for SM in HM you have to switch bosses. For SM : Malaphar : defense Walkers : absorb Underlurker : Absorb Commanders : defense Revan : defense Sparky : Defense Bulo : Defense Torque: Defense Blaster : Defense Master : Absorb Coratanni : Defense For HM : Malaphar : Defense Walkers : Absorb Underlurker : Defense Commanders : Defense Revan : Defense Sparky : Defense Bulo : Defense Torque : Defense Master/Blaster : Absorb Coratanni : Defense Defense : 1500+/1100/1100 Absorb : 1300/1100/1300 Do not augment shield. Only defense and absorb. If your shieldchance is higher than this numbers live with it. Your won't die because you have 20 shieldrating more. More important are defense and absorb stats. Most bosses need you to equip defense. These numbers are only viable for a juggernaut tank. Edited March 18, 2015 by Methoxa
OMGITSJAD
This would be only viable for SM in HM you have to switch bosses. Not for my group(assassin co-tank and sorc DPS). I literally never touch Master until the end of burn phase. Edited March 19, 2015 by OMGITSJAD
johnbgood
lucky on corellia is a decent trainingsdummy for tanks. your companion will not get stunned during the fight. it might be possible to tank him for hours, although i always died after a couple of minutes.
