Jonathanx
I have no issues tanking SM ops but on HM Malaphar I noticed I had serious issues staying up after 6 stacks which I know is bad. Normally I run with 4 piece 180set bonus and a 2 piece 192 set and the rest is 198 nonset gear all fully augmented. But I believe the aoes are not mitigatable according to parsec. Now I run with 4 piece 192 setbonus gear and the rest 198 nonset and I feel more comfortable sitting on more hp and my stat budget is still relatively the same but I have better daamage reduction. I guess my question is I know that the 180 4 piece set bonus is amazing but is it worth sacrificing the hp and armor for it?
OMGITSJAD
The old 4 piece set is actually not "amazing". It would be nice to have passively or apart of the new 6-piece set bonus, yes, but it's not worth holding your armorings back like, say, an Assassin might consider. Especially going from four 180 armorings to four 192 armorings, your armor damage reduction would probably make up for it. Sonic Barrier is definitely not worthless and should be maintained, but adding 20% to it isn't helping you that much overall, especially while your armorings are keeping your passive damage reduction down a bit. If that doesn't fix it, I would just say either your DPS are taking too many stacks and stressing the healers, your healers just aren't healing very well, or your DPS need to kill the adds faster so your co-tank can taunt off of you around 5 stacks instead of 6+. Thanks for the reply I tested both sets and Its definitely easier on the healers with the new armorings now we just need to get the boss down before enrage dps on the adds are perfectly fine they go down fairly quick after being hit by the spear. phalczen
Is a 162-rating (Arkanian) 4 piece better than four 186 armorings?
Methoxa
go down fairly quick after being hit by the spear. Killing the adds before the spear is thrown would be optimal. The jugger tank setbonus is nearly a waste. Just go full on 198 armorings. This will reduce your dtps because of higher armour and better sonic wall. The set reduces the dtps by 18 dtps. Furthermore get your defstats right. Malaphar shouldn't do more than 2k dtps on a tank, a good tank will receive less. Also use your masstaunt as often as you can to shield your raidgrp. PT's sonic rebounder can also be great here. If you have problems with the enrage, get adds under the boss and just aoe them. Hronych
6 bonus can save your arse lots of times in HM opses. It is absolutely better than old bonus of course and completely worth having it. And you will also need taunt cooldown reduction. Funny fact is though - you can survive easily without setbonus if you have capable heals. But it doesn't seem fair to complicate someone's work in the raid just because you don't want to gather set, eh? Gearing tank is all about slowly increasing all defense stats, and in the end, when you compare your numbers before the optimization and after it, you may find that they are not differ much. But there will be a lot of situations when the occasional 1% boost of some stat will result in your survival after some particularly high-damaging mechanic. TL;DR - Get the damn set bonus if you want to tank HMs. You can tank SMs half-naked if you want
