how would you go about playing all classes?

first i took a sith inquis to 60, would you go force, shooter, force, shooter? to keep game play fresh? and would you go between empire, republic etc etc?

i also have 10 toons where the inquistor and knight would be repeated, because i wanted one toon with dual sabres and wanted to play the sith assassian but thinking of deleting

all the other toons are between 10-20

opinions?

Personally, I would go as you recommend... melee and ranged, and swapping between Imp and Pub.

I also vary the role. Heals is my preferred role... it is nice to have depth of role as well as combat style. Your group needs a tank, you have one... a DPS you have one... a Heals... well you get the point. I have found that changing roles also helps to keep the gameplay fresh, as your responsibilities and focus change. This, again, is felt mainly at end game.

It has also given me a deeper respect for the jobs other roles play... As I said, I prefer heals... I do not care for tanking... but having leveled a tank to 60, and occasionally filling that role... I have a much deeper respect for those who tank exceptionally well. Same for DPS... I used to get upset when kill order/kill priority wasn't followed, until I was the one responsible for doing it.

Yeah, I would suggest the basic following pattern.

There are 8 classes and each of the eight has two advanced classes. Total of 16 various characters you can make. You could go even more if you decide each available spec line deserves its own attempts but frankly, you can change specs easily if you are subbed and if you are planning to make this many characters you are likely subbed.

So, I would alternate Empire/Republic with each character.

I would alternate 'type' with each character as well.

So if you start with DPS Sorc, Maybe next character is a melee/close Range like Vanguard, Guardian, Shadow Tank, etc.

Do one set of the 8 and then the second set of the 8.

DPS Sorc - Vanguard - Sniper - Guardian - DPS/Heals Merc - DPS/Heals Scoundrel - Mara - Shadow - Powertech - Sage - Juggernaut - Commando - Ops - Sentinel - Assassin - Slinger or whatever.

By jumping back and forth between factions you give yourself a brief respite from early planetary quests so they aren't too repetitive and by switching up the 'type' of character you experience new game play.

If you want to be 'truly optimal' you may want to look at the various companions each class gets and decide what crafting skills each person is going to get through your first 5 characters so you can optimise your crafting results so that you can be completely self sufficient on providing yourself everything your characters will need once you get to your 4th/5th character.

Also, do not neglect legacy items etc as you have them and plan out your future characters far in advance so you can send the equipment you gain with one character on to your future character with the same stats.

Play whatever I feel like playing until I'm bored, then do something else.

I go for story, not class or type. I started with a Warrior and a Knight, and then wanted to know more about how the Consular story fit in with those too. Then I decided to make an Imperial Agent to fill in that part of the story. Then realized I was missing the Inquisitor and the Bounty Hunter parts and how they fit in with the Knight story. Then I had to play a Smuggler to make sure I was getting everything. I also made more Agents and Consulars in between because that story is fun to see from different perspectives. And more Warriors because Warrior is fun.

Logic never really entered the picture.
