I am confused as to if I should actually buy the new expansion

Ok I am a founder

Bought the digital deluxe edition...(facepalm)

bought Rise of the Hutt Cartel in preorder although I remember clearly debating if I should be buying it since the game was already F2P at the time. I thought to myself ok i have already bought this so it kind of feels wrong to have to pay 20$ more for 5 levels and a few planets. But OK ill get it.

Now SOR comes out and i read in the discription that if I buy it then I get ROTHC with it??? Wait so if I am a F2P user then I just pay 20$ plus a subscription and i get access to the full game??? But ME being a founder have to pay over 100$ in all for the same privilege???

I am not crying about this but once again EA and there "make no sense...give me money right away policies" screw it over for people who have supported this game since launch ( with all the controversies we remember at that time)

Way of showing your support back to US... TYVM!!!!

Am I the only one who feels this way...or...

I'm not saying you're wrong OP, but let me put it this way. Right now, by your model, new players would have to pay a subscription fee + RoTHC price + SOR price. Imagine the game in two or three years (assuming it will last that long). Should a player who starts playing then have to pay 200 euros outright to play one game ( assuming a couple more expansions will be released by then) ?

The reason why it's done this way (when a new expansion comes the last one goes free) is so new players can actually play without having to pay an incredible ammount of money right at the start. Also, you're assuming you payed for the expansions but one could just as easily argue you just payed for an early access to those. You got your expansions sooner than those who didn't pay for them, and you should be happy for that.

Here's the solution to your problem:

Never buy an expansion and just wait until they become free for subscribers.

It'll happen to all of them eventually because they'll be old content and the game will have moved beyond them at that point.

So just sit back and enjoy your year-old content while everybody else has fun with new stuff.

Wait so if I am a F2P user then I just pay 20$ plus a subscription and i get access to the full game??? But ME being a founder have to pay over 100$ in all for the same privilege???

As of today I have spent something like $500 on this game between pre-ordering the vanilla release, pre-preordering RotHC, pre-ordering SoR, and subscription fees from launch through the present.

If, today, someone spend around $35 on SoR and a one-month subscription, then, yes, for the next 30 days she and I would have access to the exact same thing (ignoring for one second the pre-order and promotional items I have access to that she does not).

That does not mean her $35 has bought the same thing as my $500+ (or that her $20 bought the same thing as my $90 going just by the price of the boxed game and two expansions). It means:

Because I pre-ordered the vanilla box and paid for a subscription:

From December 13, 2011 to November 15, 2012:

  • I had access to everything in SWTOR.
  • I received certain pre-order exclusive in-game items.
  • I had the opportunity to participate in certain one-time events and the opportunity to gain their associated rewards.

-vs-

  • She had access to absolutely nothing in SWTOR.

From November 15, 2012 to April 9, 2013:

  • I had access to all of the F2P aspects of the game.
  • I had access to all of the subscriber-only features (access to unlimited WZs, Ops, ability to equip all items, access to Events, access to Section X, all available customization options, no credit cap, etc.).
  • I received a total of 4150 CCs from the subscriber stipends and the initial F2P Launch rewards for subscribers.

-vs-

  • She had access to all of the F2P aspects of the game (level 1-50 content with limited access to other aspects).

Because I pre-ordered RotHC and paid for a subscription:

From April 9, 2013 to December 2, 2014:

  • I had access to all of the level 1-50 F2P aspects of the game.
  • I had access to all subscriber-only features of the game.
  • I had access to level 50-55 content, including Makeb, Operations and later FPs and Daily Areas that are not accessible until those levels.
  • I received a total of 14,000 CCs from the subscriber stipends, and various subscriber-only reward CC grants.
  • I received certain pre-order exclusive in-game items.

-vs-

  • She had access to all of the level 1-50 F2P aspects of the game.

Because I pre-ordered SoR and paid for a subscription:

From December 2, 2014 to March 3, 2015:

  • I had access to all of the level 1-50 F2P aspects of the game.
  • I had access to all subscriber-only features of the game.
  • I had access to level 50-55 content.
  • I had access to level 55-60 content, including Rishi, Yavin IV, Operations and FPs that are not accessible until those levels.
  • I received a total of 2,400 CCs from the subscriber stipends.
  • I received certain pre-order exclusive in-game items (and access to the 12x XP reward in the weeks leading up to Dec. 2).

-vs-

  • She had access to all of the level 1-50 F2P aspects of the game.

Because she bought SoR and paid for a subscription and because I paid for a subscription:

From March 3, 2015 to April 2, 2015:

  • I have access to all of the level 1-50 F2P aspects of the game.
  • I have access to all subscriber-only features of the game.
  • I have access to level 50-55 content.
  • I have access to level 55-60 content
  • I will receive 600 CCs from the subscriber stipend

-vs-

  • She has access to all of the level 1-50 F2P aspects of the game.
  • She has access to all subscriber-only features of the game.
  • She has access to level 50-55 content.
  • She has access to level 55-60 content
  • She will receive 600 CCs from the subscriber stipend

tl;dr - you get what you paid for.

Absolutely not... I am not arguing that the present model is bad...and I am not saying what I payed to play F2P game is good either...This models only goal at the moment is to cater to new players...because this game is dying out ( we have to face this and i say so sadly) But my point is there was nothing done to cater to the older population of the game and let's face it...recurring customers in any buisness are as important as new customers. And EA never understood that apparently.

Of course they will make money by attracting new players...but the older ones who come back and that already have top level characters are the ones that are more likely to come back when a new expansion is released and pay a full subscription. So why not give those players a discount on the new expansions or just free if they pay two months of subscription? (or some other form of compensation). I am simply saying that long time patrons of the game should get some kind of acknowledgement )

But ...OH...I remember. In our day and age every one should be treated equally...but I maintain that WE have not been and still are not.

What?

So your mad that if someone buys SoR they get RotHC for free?

Well here is someone who understands that to solve a problem you have to simplify the matter and go to the root of the problem but unfortunatly failed to do so correctly.

I am not mad just annoyed...and my reflection is not based on emotions such as jelousy but more on a thought of fairness for everyone. That said, I am not saying I have the answer to this...but only asking for a reflection of the situation and maybe make up my mind in the process on if I should by SOR or not.

But ME being a founder have to pay over 100$ in all for the same privilege???

When you try to use the word "founder" to make your point, it makes you sound like one of those celebrity d-bags that gets pulled over by the cops and starts trying to play the "Do you know who I am?" card.

Your "founder" status means exactly NOTHING.

Let that sink in for a moment.

You paid money for a videogame during some randomly determined time period several YEARS ago and as a way of saying 'Thank you for your support," the developers of said videogame gave you a title.

It could have just as easily have said "Here at launch" or "Played in 2012"

You're entitled to nothing because of it.

I hate it when games hand out titles that give certain players a false sense of status above other players.

Do you get butthurt when you pay $10 for a movie and then a year later it's free to watch on TV, too? Same principle.

How about if you bought a car 20 years ago and had to pay extra for built-in cupholders but if you buy that model now they're included for free? Does that really grind your crank? Same principle.

How about in EVERY OTHER MMO how paid expansions become free to subscribers after a certain amount of time has passed (usually 12-18 months)?

You're paying for early access, pal, just like everything else in life. Aren't you glad you're a Founder?

Sir, I am not a celebrity, on the contrary. I am an average Joe who works his *********** *** off to pay what he has in life. So yes what I pay for is important to me. I was quoting founder to point out the fact that I have spent quite a bit of money on this game because I enjoy it. Must I explain to you in detail every penny I have put in this game ( and others as well). If you feel somehow threatened by my point, then do not blame me for it but maybe ask yourself where does your own hatred come from and you might just find that others and there opinions have nothing to do with it.

What you say in your post does nothing constructive but simply shows you have some kind of problem with people (that according to you) think they are better than you. Nowhere in my post do I even imply what you are saying. You are simply speculating without even knowing who I really am.

But thank you all the same for your thoughtfull yet limited insight.

Am I the only one who feels this way...or...

Yes... yes you are...

If the $20 for SoR bothers you, then why are you a sub? $20 is a few cops of coffee, if you enjoy the game, pay it, if you don't, then don't play...

I find it amazing that anyone would be paying nearly $200 a year to sub to the game, yet won't pay $20 to get the expansion. That strikes me as rather shortsighted... but what do I know?

Ok first of all. If I pay 10$ to see a movie, I am at the theater probably enjoying my movie with a Date. When its free on TV I am probably siting at home twitling my thumbs doing nothing and might watch a movie because it is free.

Another point, all you people assume my founder status came from pre-ordering the game. IT DID NOT! I bought the game about 1 month after release and at the time founder status still came with it. SO WHats this about early access??? I didnt not have early access to anything. And what do I get early acces to in life by paying??? Do I get early access to my appartement because I pay. NO, I pay every 1st of the month and If I dont well my *** is on the street.

And seriously ...cupholders...20 YEARS AGO!!!! I understand you want to make a point but COME ON!!! I sugest you read what you wrote over again and maybe have a good laugh like I just did.

So I see all of you basically got stuck on the word founder and went berserk. Next time ill just say I have been playing since early stages of developement.

You see, my point was that I got the feeling I was simply paying too much for what I got out of this game. And my question was if anybody felt that way not if anybody hated me for it.

Allow me:

Ok I am a founder

So am I. Good for you! The Title means jack.

Bought the digital deluxe edition...(facepalm)

So you got the goodies and early access that you CONSCIOUSLY paid for. So did I.

bought Rise of the Hutt Cartel in preorder although I remember clearly debating if I should be buying it since the game was already F2P at the time. I thought to myself ok i have already bought this so it kind of feels wrong to have to pay 20$ more for 5 levels and a few planets. But OK ill get it.

Again you made a CONSCIOUS decision to have access to those 5 levels and the planets BEFORE F2P players got it - hell, even before paying "Founder" players that didn't pay the Pre-order for whatever reason.

Now SOR comes out and i read in the discription that if I buy it then I get ROTHC with it??? Wait so if I am a F2P user then I just pay 20$ plus a subscription and i get access to the full game??? But ME being a founder have to pay over 100$ in all for the same privilege???

You being a Founder means jack - you are indeed using it like some badge that entitles you to special treatment. It is worth nothing - it means you were subbed at a certain point in time. It has no further meaning than the shiny purple black crystals people will be getting this month. Actually,it's WORSE, since at least my companions will be getting some stat boosts from those crystals.

I am not crying about this but...

Yes. Yes, you are.

once again EA and there "make no sense...give me money right away policies" screw it over for people who have supported this game since launch ( with all the controversies we remember at that time)

Way of showing your support back to US... TYVM!!!!

Take some Marketing classes, then please come back to us.

Am I the only one who feels this way...or...

I truly believe you aren't the only one. There are other self-entitled players around, I am sure.

You spent money in two items in order to have access to them before/unlike other players.

Don't feel insulted when EA/BW throws a Marketing manoeuver at F2P in order to generate cash - it's just bad form. You made your decision. Stick to it and stop whining like a self-entitled crybaby.

P.S - DarthDymond constructed a perfect answer that you are consciously choosing to ignore. That kinda speaks a lot.

*Golfclaps* It's called ridicule. You should read it up. It's barely above what you're worth, little crybaby :D

Edit: Also, that quote is meant to prove how you're blowing this whole Founder title out of proportion. "Quite a bit" - Are you kidding me? Oh wait, self-entitled. Forgot that.

Ok never mind I even posted this Thread. Upon researching a bit , I realize this is going nowhere mainly because the answers to my thread come from people payed to discredit any form of critisism towards any politic EA and other game companies might have. The whole shut up and accept it speach is getting old and tiresome. Nothing that has been said above gives a constructive answer to my question. Well excuse me for daring to criticise this GREAT companies buisiness practices. And I am so sad a company I loved so much (bioware) was bought by this piece of crap.

The closest was Heat-Wave. But then again ty for proving to me you actually work for said company.

Good bye, have fun...and see you on the other side.

Am I the only one who feels this way...or...

My 1st guild in swtor was a multi mmo gaming guild, we were playing wow, dcuo and eq2 when swtor came out, they needed a break from wow so they decided to pick up swtor on behest of some SW fans in guild. 15 of them bought the 200+$ pre order collector's edition even though i kept saying it was a mistake but they kept saying "it is limited edition, will never be found!!". After the game went f2p they have been treated same way as someone who only spend 5$ to buy CC. I told them : "i told you so", then they said "F this!! we are out!!" and never set their feet on swtor again. They are currently playing WoW, DCUO, EQ2, ESO, AA, FF14 and their members are over 500 but their website forum rules specifically mentions not to talk about anything SWTOR :D.

So after reading that do you feel better? you could have been one of them.

Seriously, though, Darth Dymond gave the most exhaustive, constructive answer than any I've seen on these forums all year. The fact that you almost completely ignored it really does say something.
