R.I.P Leonard Nimoy

As a kid, I was not a popular child, I was a nobody, a loser, the other kids knew it too. I started watching Star Trek on reruns a few years before the new Star Trek movies came out. I watched and saw Spock, he was instantly my favorite character and Leonard Nimoy's portrayal was so inspiring to me, it just gave me hope for a better future and that I would one day do something that mattered. And now he is gone.

Just read this on Yahoo a bit ago, definitely a bummer.

I wasn't born just yet when the original Star Trek came out, but did watch them every chance I could in the late 70's. They were syndicated on our local station and a San Francisco station that we were able to pick up.

At any rate, the man will be missed.

"We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted, in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most.......human."

Leonard Nimoy Lived Long and certainly did Prosper, and now it is time for him to Rest in Peace. Thanks for everything.

Thank you for posting this. I was going to do the same thing until I read your post. There is no better way to honor Mr. Nimoy than this in my opinion.

Heartbroken today hearing of his death. I still to this day remember being in the theater with my mom watching Star Trek 2 (Wrath of Khan), and when Spock died I lost it. I remember my mom crying too, and seeing other people in the theater crying and leaving before it was over as we did. I didnt even see the entire funeral until it came out on VHS. That's how much of a connection his character had made with me, and many others.

Now so many years later those same feelings return, and yet I can now look back at all i enjoyed from him. I can mourn and at the same time smile remembering the joy he brought to so many.

For those of you that didn't see it, the following was what turned out to be the final tweet from him. He posted it Feb. 23, at 2:30am.

A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP

RIP Leonard Nimoy, DeForest and James have been waiting for you.

You will be missed.

Sad day for all sci-fi fans

star trek was one of my earliest memories as a kid in the 1970s . it fired a childs imagination like no other and to this day star trek and star wars ofcourse still make my imagination fire up in a child like way at 44 years old

I was horribly sad when Robin Williams died, now I'm the same way again when I heard Leonard died... :'( RIP and live long and prosper.

Totally agree. I was actually heartbroken when Robin Williams died and still am in shock over his loss. Very sad that Spock has passed away too. It's incredible that a TV show which only had 3 series, touched so many people and his character was memorable.

The players on Star Trek Online have been gathering nonstop around Vulcan since it happened. There is a fountain on the surface that everyone is gathering in a circle around, standing at attention, and doing salutes to. In addition a ton of ships are in the system parked in orbit.

you can see the picture here as well as the plans to make a memorial in-game
