The Companion you have left behind...

Khryn

Recommended Posts

I was about to hit Yavin IV with my brand new shiny FOTM character and I realized I had

only used one or two of my companions. Then it got me thinking.

Which characters have I left behind? Zenith for sure. Nadia Grell.

So how do you choose which companion you take with you? Do you ever wonder about the ones

you left behind, thinking they might have had a good line or two had you brought them with you?

Well, I usually take my favorites...Malavai, Vector, Andronikos, Gault for the imps...Scourge/Sometimes Doc, Zenith, Corso and well Trooper doesn't matter, I have no favorite, they all suck imo.

On Yavin, only the main romances speak lines...so you get Vette/Mal, Vector/Kaliyo, Andronikos/Bishface, I mean Ashara, Mako/Torian for the Imps....Jedi side you get Doc/Kyra, Mr Boring Iresso/Nadia, Corso and Princess whatsherface and on Trooper you get Catman and that pointless waste of skin...whats her name again? Oh yeah Elara Dorn. (My opinions are my opinions, so sorry if you love the maligned ones in my post) :p

Those are the ones that speak to you. Hope that helps. :)

Aside from the intro, Zenith is silent throughout the ENTIRE expansion; same with Qyzen and Tharan.

Zenith is mind boggling as hell, seeing he's voiced by Troy Baker, same VA as Theron Shan.

In other words, you wouldn't have missed much. As far as UNIQUE Consular companions are concerned, only Iresso and Nadia got to keep their tongues the entire time.

HK-51 and Treek talk as well, though I'm not sure that's a good thing pertaining the latter. They are currently bugged on Yavin 4 though.

With it so easy to deck out our comps now there is no reason not to use them all and not feel "gimped"

I've been doing lots of oddball things lately on my toons and it's refreshing to hear them again after the initial storyline where they were acquired and quickly put in the starship

I always use my favorites....

Vector, Lt. Pierce, Andronikos, Vette, Zenith, Torian, Doc, Scourge, and Kira. The storyteller in me, wants the favorites with my character through whatever they're going through. The rest are simply there for my to collect extra xp from companion quests. That's it.

There are a couple that I kind of miss at times (Blizz, Mako, Nadia, Gault...), but other than that I don't care.

Same...I even bothered to finally gear out M1-4X. He still kind of sucks in a lot of ways, but it was fun running around with him as an alternative to the previously ( improperly ) maligned Ms. Dorn.

I'm still not bothering with Corso, Iresso, Zenith, Guss and a few others , who just downright get on my nerves to lug around on my various toons, but who knows - maybe in one of my boredom periods I'll gear them out just for sh*ts n grins.

Thus far, I use Vector (Temple Alternative), Torian (Mako as the alternative), Elara/Jorgan, Kira, Quinn (Vette alternative), Qyzen, Khem/Andronikos, and my Smuggler has been alternating between Corso and Bowdaar on Taris.

I have completed BH, RT, JK, IA, SW 1-50 storyline, with 50-55 done on BH, JK, IA, and 55-60 on BH and JK.

I admit, I keep expecting my companions I don't use to be summoned saying something about not being allowed in my combat runs often. Maybe a comment like "Huh, I racked a thousand kills with you, and then I've been sent to scrub the ship's floors. What do you want now?"

I just went back and ran affection up on a few, so I got all their conversations. It's worthwhile when you still get the boosts from having them to 10000. You can get Heroic Moment up to 2 minutes with a 15 minute cooldown, plus some other minor improvements. Other than having them "do better" at crafting it would be pretty expensive to run them all up.

I have a... Passionate dislike for any and all companions that does not speak English and just use the same 5 Alien speak lines recorded, and as such, I never use them unless forced to.

So that is at least 1 companion for each class.

There are also some English speaking companions that I dislike, like Androwhateverhisnameis(Sorc Companion) and Skadge... Ugh, Skadge... Why was I forced to have this annoying bastard on my ship?

Anyway, I wish they would add the ability to kill Companions again, I have a few I would like to show the roomier side of an Airlock.

That is such a bad idea. I'd have killed a few companions outright.. lol. I used Doc almost exclusively and he disapproved of just about ANYTHING Jedi-ish I'd say, even if it was just remotely philosophical. And forget using a Jedi Mind Trick around him. He rolls his eyes and compares you to a certain bad guy.

I have sets of cunning leveling legacy gear for any cunning companion.

Mako, Vette, or rolling operative/sniper a 2nd/3rd/4th time so I always have a set of min/maxed gear every 10 levels for blasting out an alt real fast using companion. Having multiples of the same class make it easy to grind out gear over and over again when maxed on comms for the week. LoL

I tend to use only 1 companion. The rest get tossed aside but only after I completed companion stories for bonus once. Then I never look at them again except for crafting ;)

Um...Treek uses Aim, not Cunning. Even HK who uses a hybrid of AIm/Cunning uses primarily Aim with Cunning main stats on his weapons.

I deliberately go out of my way to use all my companions on all of my characters. I'd say Quinn probably sees the least action, though, cuz... y'know. That Thing He Did.

Actually Quinn has grown on me. Among other things he has a pretty poignant line when approaching the Temple/ Training Grounds on Yavin4. Really got to me that one.

Elara also has one worth hearing at the Temple. Those are the only ones I recall, but Quinns line...

I paraphrase, "When I was a child, the Imperial Guard was something we looked upon with admiration. Look at them now. Look at us now..." said in a really sad and wistful tone.

And his comment that the Massassis' blood is much purer than his...

I shall leave this here: ;)

As a child, I idolized the Guard. To serve the Emperor as they did was the greatest honor a non-Sith could achieve. Now... look at them. Look at us.

There are carvings of the Massassi in the Heritage Museum in Kaas City. Their savagery is great, but their blood is far purer than mine.

Sir, I find I'm slightly hyperventilating when I look at that statue. It may be a cultural fear response. If so, I apologize.

Ah, thank you! That's why I paraphrased ;)

Did you really remember that verbatim, or did you have it saved somewhere? I find that I don't remember as well as I once did, getting older...

They knew it’d be too much for fangirls to handle :p In all seriousness, they probably wanted him to prioritize on Theron and not get his voices mixed up and whatnot. That doesn't explain why Gault doesn't get any lines, though, since his VA was around to do Colonel Darok, who wasn't nearly as important.

As far as companions go, I almost never use my fourth or fifth companion, just because they join after I've already geared up and gotten used to someone else--the exception to this is Guss because he's a healer. Additionally, I find companion tanks, excluding Kaliyo, to be rather poor, so they don't get used either.

Most of the time I carry around Kira, Tharan, Guss or Risha, Jorgan or Elara, Quinn or Vette, Ashara, Kaliyo, and Torian. Since only love interests spoke in SoR, only love interests got to visit Rishi and Yavin IV with me.

On my DPS Sin and well lately most of my characters I take Treek Auged 192 geared for Heals and HK-47 192 Auged for a DPS companion or Ashara if more AOE is neede, On my operative I sometimes switch to Vector for added AOE DPS but I mainly stick to having HK and only switch to Treek if its a heroic fight that needs it really or if I'm going out my way to attack flagged reppies so I get some extra heal protection

It depends on my spec really.

Tank: melee dps most of the time, healer for heroic solo attempts

DPS: melee or ranged dps if I want it done quick, healer for lazy mode leveling

Why I prefer melee dps as tank? Because it's much easier to keep track of enemies and all enemies remain in same area (for AoE pwnange).

At level 60 when my companions have 192 sets I like to switch active companion a lot more often. I almost forgot how good tank Kaliyo is.

I typically switch between given companions on days. For instance I'll use my consular as an example. When doing the black hole or anything with a lot of enemies that gets annoying I use Qyzen. When I do ilum I like to use Nadia, her aoe cuts down the time it takes to do the ilum dailies, for Makeb, I use Felix for no reason in particular, and I use Zenith whenever I feel I've been neglecting him, usually when I am in Section X. Tharan I almost never use, not because I don't love him, but as a healer running around with his minimal DPS output would slow us down tremendously, when my shadow gets a little higher I imagine she'll make up for my lack of tharan use.
