I've seen this idea and the argument against it before. The result of such perks is new ammunition for elitist jerks when forming groups for ops (and maybe hard mode flashpoints as well) because people will determine that there are some specific ideal race/class combinations for best performance and they will kick those who dare to join up as a character that doesn't fit within that narrow list.

The separate class buffs only "work" (they avoid creating this kind of attitude) because we can place buffs on other players and we can unlock the full set of buffs to be placed by one character regardless of class by completing a few of the class stories.

So what then? Would these proposed race buffs then have to function similar to that to be acceptable? Make them shareable and allow us to unlock them all so that eventually any race's buff places them all anyway? (edit: Hmmm, then perhaps you might start a "pay to win" argument since races can be unlocked with payment instead of needing to get a character of that race through their story...)

The result of such perks is new ammunition for elitist jerks when forming groups for ops (and maybe hard mode flashpoints as well) because people will determine that there are some specific ideal race/class combinations for best performance and they will kick those who dare to join up as a character that doesn't fit within that narrow list.

That's the major reason why the racial perks have no inpact on gameplay. No matter how insignifant the bonusses would be, the instant they would have some relevance in actual gameplay, those elitist would start to consider that class X has to be of race y (because the boost given is best for that class), or that race z shouldn't be played by anyone (bacause it's boost is inferior to all other racial boosts).

For example, stat bonuses would be easiest to show it:

let's say cathar would get a flat +5 or +10 to cunning... everyone playing cathar as sith warrior, or a jedi consular would be considered intentially weakening his character, because he chose a race that does not boost the classes main stat. Those elitist would kick all cathar non-operatives/non-smuggler out of each group.

If it would be less obvious bonuses (like a +5% speed increase for cathar, a +5% damage reduction for pureblood sith and a +5 critical bonus for cyborgs), those guys would compare all bonusses and rank them, determine what class could use what bonus best, and come up with something like "all tanks must be pureblood sith (bacause of the increased damage reduction), all dps have to be cyborgs (because they do more criticals = more damage)" or stuff like that.

So, no, the way it is - race is just something cosmetic with no inpact on game play - is the best way to handle races/species. Due to this, we have a nice setting with (almost?) every race in every class, without any favorite combinations past personal taste and mabe canon considerations.
