KeyboardNinja
Opinion time! What spec do you think is optimal for Revanite Commanders? For those of you who haven't seen the fight in hard mode, there's some more stuff going on, but it's structurally the same idea just with more health and a very tight DPS check in the burn phase. Also you end up strategically leaving some adds up in various places. Otherwise though, same notion. Here are the pros and cons I see to both (in no particular order): Ruffian has ranged options, slightly better survivability and much better AoE Ruffian's single-target sustained DPS is appreciably higher than Scrapper Scrapper loses a surprising amount of DPS due to the fact that Blood Boiler has to be delayed to avoid wasting it on a target that's about to die Scrapper target swaps like a boss, but requires melee range and positioning Ruffian suffers from long setup and DoT overkill issues galore on this fight Ruffian's AoE DoTs have the potential to murder the player whenever Sano is out (due to the reflecty shield and adds wandering around) Scrapper has better controlled burst, for adds that need to die quickly So honestly I'm not sure. It feels like both disciplines suck a lot on this fight, but I might give a slight edge to Scrapper just because of the setup time in Ruffian. Thoughts? It feels like both disciplines suck a lot on this fight, but I might give a slight edge to Scrapper just because of the setup time in Ruffian. Thoughts? Addressing these point by point: Ruffian's sustained is really only slightly higher but the range is nice in the burn phase. Scrapper I would say actually has better survivability but it isn't very useful in this fight since little damage comes as one big hit. AOE dots on Ruffian are not a big deal if the raid group is correctly positioning the shield boss and bringing adds into the shield to be AOE'd. Scrapper setup issues with Blood Boiler can be controlled by smart use of Blood Boiler / pairing it with Back Blast. Also, delaying Blood Boiler is really no different than what other DPS classes suffer from: delaying Gore, delaying Penetrating Blasts, delaying Ravage, delaying Unload/Blazing Bolts.... all of these are bad on low HP adds. In short I suspect the amount of useful DPS you can do as Scrapper is higher on this fight, although if you have some burst elsewhere in your group, you might be able to get away with Ruffian since Ruffian can potentially do a little better in the burn phase (whereas Ruffian will probably slow you down with the adds in the rest of the fight). However Operative DPS in any form isn't extremely good on this fight. A Carnage Marauder for instance has a little less sustained, but equal or better burst, better overall survivability, leap instead of roll, and significantly better AOE. edit: And PT is better than any other melee, in line with almost every fight right now. It feels almost a joke to call PT melee. Edited December 13, 2014 by Saenth
