Unforgivable Combat Lag

This is my plea to the devs:

I don't normally take to the forums to complain about issues with the game, but I feel this one is just too important to ignore. Myself and a group of a few others play SWTOR almost exclusively to PvP. With the new expansion and 3.0 there has been horrendous lag in combat. This happens inside and outside of warzones, but in PvP it has effectively robbed the game of enjoyability for me and many others. This needs to be fixed now. Not a month from now. Not after the stupid meat Christmas tree in Rishi. Now. The fact that this has been going on for a week is infuriating. I don't understand how the resolution of this issue is not the paramount of priority since it affects virtually every part of the game.

For clarification:

- This is not an isolated issue. Nearly every guildmate and friend has confirmed they are experience the same lag.

- It is not related to your ping. Our ping is normal, but lag still occurs.

- It is not related to your graphics settings. My graphics settings have remained the same since pre 3.0. Lag surfaced afterward. I've tried lowering most of the settings just in case, and it has no affect on the lag.

- The delay ranges from about 1 second to a mind-numbing 5+ seconds.

- I play on The Bastion in case that has any relevance.

Please address the combat lag that came with 3.0. Make your game playable again.

Probably a server problem because everything is fine on ToFN.

When I was playing my Harb sin yesterday however... not so much.

I sort of doubt it's a server issue because the lag isn't constant. It's very specific to when you're in combat. Plus if the server was having issues you'd think our ping would show some kind of activity. Either way I don't have the expertise to say what's causing it. That's why I'm here. Hopefully the devs respond.

Well when you enter combat you enter another state.. When you're not in combat there isn't a whole lot going on.

Cutscenes are stored clientside so once you start talking to something it depends on your harddrive speed how long you have to wait before it actually starts. Nothing to do with the server.

And ping doesn't have to show anything if it's just server inconsistency.

I'm getting lag on The Ebon Hawk, too, but strangely enough it hasn't happened in PVP. Just in the newer zones, and while questing/doing flashpoints, even on unpopulated planets. I got an 8 second delay on Nar Shaddaa on a noob PT I'm leveling.. and my ping was 27 ms the entire time. Ridiculous.

The newer zones constantly have like 3-4 full instances.

After all the years of deadness the bioware servers aren't armed against that much trafficing :p

Also seems to take forever to mount a speeder as well. Same type of delay as the combat one.

I too am only having problems on NA servers though. Both PoT5 and Jung-Ma were giving me problems like this over the weekend. I've been on ToFN the past three nights with no issues in pvp or pve. I thought perhaps it's just cause I'm on during "off hours" for the server so less people on but sounds like that's not it.

Framerate is in NO way related to anything but your computer.. you're in the wrong discussion bud.

I also doubt this is true. My PC is fine and I've always had to deal with some degree of FPS stuttering/lag regardless of graphics settings (I think stemming from the game's engine). The lag has just escalated to insane levels and now occurs at pivotal points in gameplay. If we're going to sit here and speculate, I'd say the issue involves the engine somehow. Again, though, none of us can really say this or that is the cause, but to say a huge number of players' computers are all of a sudden pieces of crap post 3.0? lol, no.

some people are, some people aren't. can't explain it. I'm not a computer expert but I've looked up how to optimise nvidia settings for this game and I'm at 5-15 fps in 8v8 on TOFN almost constantly at the moment since 3.0 dropped, spikes all over the place, plenty of people are complaining about the same thing too. arenas are more or less fine, the new planets are fine for me now too but 8v8 is a mess.

the customer service forum contains about 20 threads like this one by the way, not one of which has been responded to. bioware are a f*cking joke. i was hoping it was going to be fixed by the 'server maintenance' today but nope

If they don't want to address it, that's fine. It's such a crippling problem, however, that I won't resubscribe and I'll move on to another game. I imagine quite a few others will feel the same. I like this game, though. I'd like to see a resolution, and I'd feel remissed as a customer to not at least voice concerns and an opportunity for them to be resolved.

Same for me. If this doesn't get fixed within the next... What, 6 days? (Where my subscription runs out), Im most likely not coming back. Not paying for a unplayable game, that's for sure!

Me and my wife play together. Her PC takes HUGE lag/stuttering in pvp mine doesn't lag at all and her comp is the gaming comp I play on a crap laptop (from Walmart) so if anyone were to lag it should of been me. I don't know what causes this. Its not even every match its really hit and miss.

Never seen lag this bad in swtor since the Ilum days. 2-3 seconds at times before abilities fire off all at once.

Was perfect for patch after patch but this last expansion really tanked it. Can happen anywhere. New zones, old zones, pvp, even on the ship target dummy.

The WZ lag has made the game unplayable for me for 2 days now... I was trying to fight through it, but I finally just gave up... And I main a Mara, so I'm already fighting enough roots, stuns, pushback, kiting, and other CC for it to be compounded by just ridiculous lag...

I had no performance issues at all pre-3.0...

Harbinger is also effected by the same combat lag... Abilities not activating or taking 4secs means you miss the activation or you die

Hhmmm... Actually that may hint at what the issue is and why some people are having an issue and others aren't (I'm in the having issues camp)...

It would be good to know what hardware people are using... Specifically what type of cpu and graphics card... This maybe driver related or manufacture specific

I did notice for the first time last night that the colours of FPS numbers were switching between red and green during the load screen into the new Flash Points... My usual FPS during loading is Red and is about 100-111 FPS... The FPS didn't really change, just the colours flashed back and forth... I know that indicates CPU and Graphics card... But it may also indicate that the expansion is more CPU intensive than it was before

I'm using the following hardware if anyone wants to compare notes to see if it is a driver issue

Intel i7 4770k (4.2ghz)

Sapphire HD 7970ghz VaporX 6gb (latest Catalyst drivers)... I only updated last night to check if it made a difference

8gb GSkill 2666 (I'll be adding another 8gb when it arrives tomorrow)

3x Intel 520 SSDs

I can confirm this is also happening in regular world class stories on ToFN. Just like some of you describes: game will hang anywhere between 1-4 seconds during combat.

Hmm, I havn't noticed any such thing since launchday anymore.

Though admittedly I don't play much overdays.
