Companion affection - once it has been maxed you can go nuts right?

If you've unlocked the legacy portrait for that companion in the legacy menu for exhausting all their dialogue/quests you can pick whatever choices you want regardless of how it affects their affection right? Or, do you have to keep it at 10k for some benefit?

The only benefit post all their chatter and of course legacy unlock for keeping them maxed out is if they have high affection the chances of them performing better on crew skill missions is increased. How much this is I can't exactly tell you, but you are suppose to have a better chance of a critical success with a highly affectionate crew member.

I can tell you from experience, making sure I keep all 40 companions at 10k affection, and marrying them too, btw. Is that they have a REALLY high chance to crit with or without the legacy character perk to crit on making items. I've noticed certain companions, whether it's their specialty or not, will crit ALOT just for being my BFF.

So...you DO want to keep them at 10k, but only if you do crew skills. If you don't, meh.

If you've gotten them to 10k and unlocked the portrait you've already seen all the interactions from them that you ever will.

i.e. You can't lose comp affection after all the convos are burned and you've played through all of the old story missions.

I haven't had a single reaction (positive or negative) from any comp that I've used on maxed out characters in years. I know you can still lose affection if you go to the old school daily areas on Belsavis but you can also gain it right back.

And yes, I have all 40 portraits unlocked. Not all of them are at 10k, but... I'm a slacker like that.

If you don't craft much or send your companions out on crew skill missions then it doesn't matter.

But being at 10k affection does improve a companion's chance to crit on a crew skill mission or craft. So it's usually a good idea to keep them at 10k if you can.

Unless it's Skadge, you should just be rude to him at every opportunity :D

It also decreases the time it takes them to finish whatever task you assign them, whether it is crafting or sending them on missions.
