still suffering from ability delay

I have raised threads on this before and most claimed the issue had been fully reoslved but the issue is most certainly not resolved, for me at least. I noticed it really badly when I mistakingly went to Oricon because I had two missions on my ships terminal which I assumed were both pre Revan missions. Ability delay on oricon was horrible and resulted.

 

However I have since been doing Forged Alliances missions for the pre Revan stuff and have been carrying out the solo Flashpoints and the ability delay is still there. I really notice it when using Vicious Strike, the animation keeps resetting to the beginning, sometimes several times before it goes off on a single attack. It is really hurting my gameplay because it can cause me to get killed by mobs because abilities are not executing in time and also messes up rotations.

 

Ability delay seems to be impacted by the amount of players in an area, Oricon was quite busy and ability delay was horrendous.

 

I have tested on WiFi and LAN and both are affected just as badly. Server lag ranmged between 40-50ms on either connection. I tested WoW to see if I suffer from similar issues but I do not, the server lag remains the same with WoW but the experience is buttery smooth so I do not believe it to be an ISP issue, I have also went through two different ISP's in my time playing SWTOR and this never made a difference.

This was never an issue in early Beta, it was introducted in either the second last, or last beta client and it has never gone away. So whatever they changed in those beta clients has caused this. Edited by smexymage

your ping isnt the issue. the servers are the issue. It'll smooth out over a week or two. All things considered the lag has been acceptable, I havent gotten booted yet because of it, or had a skill fail to go off. It can be frustrating But I just keep on going with my rotation as if the abilities have already gone off and 9/10 the server will catch up to me and I won't miss much damage/healing etc.

The thing with me is the ability doesnt catch up. When you do Vicious Slash, the animation, as you may know shows the sabers swinging overhead. What happens with me is that the animation gets about 50% of the way through (so the sabers are overhead) and then the whole thing resets and starts over. Sometimes it can reset like this 2-3 times before it exectutes. Edited by smexymage

It's still ridiculously bad for me on planets and my ship. I think it's getting to the point of being unacceptable now :(

I understand what you are trying to say here BUT it isn't just smoothing out .. it has been over 3 weeks since SoR went live and the lag packets are horrible and once they hit they stay with you..

 

more or fewer players in an area doesn't cause it..

 

speed is not the issue (minor speed decrease near austin but noting noteworthy )

 

packet losses seem manageable (or should be if the game is put together right)..

 

BUT at times the laggy .. no response game .. moving spawns that you have to chase after leaping at them because THEY aren't where they showed as being (this is even true when you would have to leap further than possible to hit them and can happen when game response seems ok)...

 

As far as going on with rotation .. I can't .. I have to keep pushing the same ability as UNTIL the lag stops the ability doesn't engage and this has caused MANY MANY MANY deaths on things that should be easy...

 

the lag has no rhyme nor reason to it .. no obvious cause from me to them .. nothing on my system and the game worked great before SoR now it is a nightmare.

Same for me, I even made a huge PC upgrade right before release.

 

I understand it's the Holidays and they're enjoying them with family/friends/etc, so I've been patient with my nerd rage, but this needs to be fixed asap :p

Ability delay is back for sure. Not to mention server sync issues.

 

On top of that my FPS is terrible since xpac release. Drops below 20 in 16 man Ops.

What kind of rig are you testing this game on?

This has nothing to do with player's computers specifically. It's too widespread and the symptoms don't match.
^^ This right here, trust me its all the server, its to the point for me I'm laying off playing till it gets somewhat fixed, it is so bad now I click three abilities and only one has activated or none and you can forget trying to interrupt something that crap is impossible, but yeah it crazy bad right now so I personally cant play till they fix this so it sucks but I just cant play with it this bad...

I have not even thought about touching the new expansions because of this server side lag and ability lag tried to do the Oricon stuff but just plain to bad to play at times, so tried to do the HK-51 Theoretika as I was running out of stuff to do one night and it said I was the only one in the instance and boom major lag and 6 second ability lag! Probably not going to renew Sub and go play other games until I see they have fixed this issue.

I gotta chime in too, I'm on Belsavis doing dailies for cash, there are only 12 people on this planet, and I'm experiencing huge amounts of ability delay, sometimes abilities not firing at all. Also, delays on looting, calling out speeder, damned near everything. I planned my vacation so I could spend a week doing this game only, and this is kinda killing it for me. Been a subscriber since launch and never seen anything like this.

I agree that the 3.0 lag is too widespread to be totally based on individual machines/internet connections. However, it's also true that most players are not experiencing lag to the point where it affects gameplay, so that means it's still at least somewhat situational. My guess is they are dealing with a number of bugs that, when combined, expose users with certain configurations/machines/etc to the lag, while leaving others (such as myself) completely unaffected.

 

I know the recent patches corrected at least some of these issues, as several guild members have reported their lag dropping or going away completely. Still, obviously, there are issues remaining, and hopefully they can get them patched soon.

 

That said, I would highly doubt there will be a patch tomorrow, so we're looking at next Tuesday at the earliest really. I know patience is a rare commodity in the gaming world, but in this case is the only practical solution. I wouldn't blame people who are being severely affected for cancelling their subscription until it's fixed, but short of that, patience is the only thing that will work. I have no doubt fixing the remaining lag is high on the priority list.

Same I pretty much stopped playing due to this losing a month plus of sub time because the game is so bad I can't stand it. :(

There were 20ish people on Belsavis yesterday. I had the lag myself and the only conversation going on in general was lag. Hoth was fine, FPs were (mostly, had one guy completely lock up) fine, WZs were even fine. There is something going on, and I doubt its got much to do with the client end.

Well, has been unbearable almost. Just now I was playing with 2 friends; they said forget it we're logging off. So bad that I had to agree.

 

Nar Shaddaa on some low level toons. It was truly pathetic; the skill/ability delays and companions wigging out ( basically running to places 30 meters away, maybe running back and then doing nothing), gap closer launching players to a spot where the enemy is not...and then said enemy ends up in yet another spot. It is in truth, unplayable.

I still think this is nothing but a ton of F2P influx over the holidays, since all the kids are out of school. The servers are just getting slammed with a lot of people, and they've never been good at handling that since beta.

 

I'll bet money via paypal, this problem largely goes away once school starts up again. It's also the reason they aren't "fixing" anything, there is nothing to fix, short of opening new servers which they obviously aren't going to do because they know this is a temporary influx.
