Chapter 1: Final Boss Fight - Viticar

Call it bad luck if you will, but I was almost completely through Viticar's ship when the update landed on our laps. Talk about a worse case scenario. Half my toolbars are now empty from skills that went bye bye. Some I can get back but now I'm told I have to see a trainer first. So I go in to the Viticar fight with untested skills from the new skill tree (if that word can even be used to describe the new system now).

Needless to say the fight didn't go well. My first attempt I was literally one shotted. Yes. One shotted. He did his main attack for over 8100 damage and I'm rezing at that point. I barely even got a chance to put my dots on him before I'm calling in a rez droid.

So I try again. Same story. Not a glitch. His main attack hits you for over 8100 damage and your done.

So I try one more time. I know now when the main attack is coming so I pop my shielf right before it hits. The shield saves me but now I am down to less than a quarter of health. I got my healer doing his thing and I'm healing myself too and before I can even get back to full health. WAM! I get hit by that main attack again and I'm out of the fight.

What the hell do people do for this? You get one shot with a health pack and at that level it won't even bring you back to full health? And you don't get a second use out of it due to the cool down. Do you sit there and stun the guy for a min after surviving this main attack so your cooldowns are burn off?

Or do you say screw the healer, going in with your DPS companion let him get whacked and hope you take out the boss before he can use his main attack again?

Just curious how other people are getting through this fight solo.

There probably aren't very many people who have fought him under 3.0, most people are probably playing end game stuff on their higher leveled characters instead of playing their lower leveled ones. I wouldn't expect to find many people with experience on stuff like this for awhile.

But, one thing that should always be asked in topics like these. Is your equipment up to par or are you running around in low level gear?

Reasonable question and I should have thought to include it. Thanks for bringing it up. I'm in full adaptive armor as is my companion. Everything I have is level 31 mods or higher. The boss is a level 34 I believe. My toon is 34 as well. Could I bump up the mods? Sure, but I don't really see this as being a game changer for the fight. Armor rating, health, and just general statistic improvement would be minor.

The armor improvement might be enough to keep me alive through the initial attack without popping a shield, but I would still have little life left. I would still be in the same boat of trying to heal completely up before he hit me again. And as I stated with both me and the companion healing, I couldn't get fully healed by the time it hit me again. (DPS specked not healer).

I have seen some rumors floating around that people think the companions took a hit to healing as well as the players. I don't think we have enough information on this yet to be sure if this is indeed the case. But it might explain why I'm now struggling. On a fight intended to knock you on you butt but not kill you and drag the fight out as you spend time healing instead of killing the boss, has turn into a fight that will knock you your butt and then slit your throat because your healer companion is no longer up to snuff.

Due to the lack of feedback I'm getting from other players I think I'm going to shelve this character for a while. Play one of my 55 until this issue can be debunked, addressed, or at least followed up on.

OK quickly from very faint memory I think I recall him having an ultimate ability which instantly kills you... need to interrupt that. Rest of the fight is dead easy especially as balance and utilising los.

This is the answer. You don't try to mitigate that big hit with your bubble, you have to interrupt it. Learn to use that interrupt button now, because most big fights in the class story have the same mechanic.

Worth noting that the interrupt always works on the class quest bosses, but cooldowns can be tight with some of them.

Knockback, Stun, and legacy ability stuns can help out there.

At one point heroic moment also reset stun cooldowns for some classes, can't remember if that included sages.

Also some companions can interrupt or stun certain things, if you're good at controlling them that can also help sometimes.

The issue he has is that he no longer can interrupt that attack anymore as because he finishes cool down faster than the interrupt does. This is the same issue Agent classes are now facing with their act 2 boss

Just did it yesterday. If I remember, I interrupted the first one. Stunned him for the second one. The third one he one shotted tank companion . Then I just barely killed him before he got off the fourth. If I had my wits about me I would have used heroic moment. Doesn't that reset stun cool down?

No but you can KB/push him away him with force wave, which interrupt the attack, too.

As in earlier versions, you have to interrupt him when he goes to attack with one of his powers, and also make sure that your Shields or whatever defensive capabilities that you're using stay active during that fight.
